Whycutmeapart, 04 Oct 2022WTH my post got cut??? Here I go one more time: I live in ... moreI live in a small town at a remote location. JIO 4G speed is extremely good here. I watch full hd videos, play online games without any problems.

In conclusion, 4G was actually the biggest impact on mobile technology we ever knew:-

      1. Things got cheaper and better because 4G was easy and cheaper to implement than even 2G.
      2. Performance & speed although not as per claims, but still very decent and a lot of world is on 4G for majority of their internet needs.
      3. 4G phones did go as low as Rs. 2500, which provided a good boost to sales.

Any variant of 5G, I'm afraid doesn't sound promising at this stage. Even if it turns out good, which I'm sure it will be, it won't be revolutionary the way 4G was.

Whycutmeapart, 04 Oct 2022WTH my post got cut??? Here I go one more time: I live in ... moreI on the contrary live in a small city of India, and I do get very reasonable speeds for the most part, on my Airtel and Jio 4G. Airtel is usually more reliable and faster, but again this will differ from circle to circle, and time to time.
In recent times though, even Airtel goes into 30 second blackouts now and then.

The best download I ever got was around 8.5MB/ second, which translates to around 68 mbps, on Airtel. Claimed 150 mbps download was never ever hit in these 5 or so years, no matter what.

This 5G, you're right will prove to be a joke. I'm expecting big blows to network reliability, signal strength, etc.
I did an indepth study and found that initial 5G will be this Sub 6Ghz type, which means an improvement to 4G, so we may expect minor speed bump but no latency improvement. MMWave is the real deal, but it requires far too many mobile towers and devices must also support it. With so much investment involved, its impractical and might be dangerous in real life.

I live in the center of the "Silicone Valley" of India and Airtel 4G drops to less than 1mb DL in some dense/particular areas in the city center. Last week I tried using my LTE tethering on my desktops, when some POS cut my fiber line coming from a neighbour's box...and I barely got DL speeds greater than 35 mbps. This is in the Central area. Make what you will of it.

I can bet you an imaginary bridge that this "5G" is only going to be 5G in name only. The fraud telcos will charge 5G prices, give 3G speeds and me-me-me humble man will take credit for inventing 5G in India and paste it all over the "Do not Plaster or fine Rs500" walls come election time. We citizens get the shaft.

Jio seems best for good indoor coverage as it has bought spectrum in 700 Mhz band.

5G is a big lie especially about the latency they promised. Speed is irrelevant since 4G is fast enough for everyday use

I don't need 5G, as 4g is more than enough for my needs.if i need more i can connect WiFi. 5G 6G are just scams to squeeze more money from already broken citizen's
