Smart watches should be rectangle IMO..
1. More space to put notification text.
2. More space to watch videos.
3. More space for keyboard.
4. More space for app to show info.
But hey, this is google. They had to think differently from Apple, they surely have their own UX design for it. Great now we get some competition.
They have to keep the shape and design standard for the next watch and so on. (Like Apple watch bands have not changed in size since Gen 1)
So user can build up a collection of different bands for different look and feel.
Maybe a pixel watch pro, with stainless steel and sapphire screen.

I have to throw in some arguments:
1. The bezels are thick, but they're "hidden" and part of the design from what I can see, so no issue at all
2. The older SOC doesn't matter at all. It's a watch, as long as it does everything as expected, what does it matter?
3. Battery life is bad, true, but STILL more than on the Apple Watch, considering the difference in size I am shocked this lasts as long as it does/ the Apple Watch is as miserable as it is

It was pretty basic for modern watches, no LTE or WiFi i think and no mic but it was useful being able to leave my phone in the back while my watch could help with actual work haha!

There used to be such watches earlier but maybe no one was buying or maybe they weren't much capable then

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2022The bezels are insane on something this small - hiding them... moreNope, their phones do it too (a76 cores are from 2018 I think, my old P40 pro with the kirin 990 had a76 cores when the a77 was out and it got a bad name for it then).
So pixel 6 line has a 4 year old SoC and the pixel 7 improves on that by having a SoC thats 4 years old too but has like what, 5-10% clock speed increase (4nm fab vs 5nm fab aswell but tbh the numbers mean nothing at this point when intels old 14nm wafers were smaller than others 10-7nm wafers).
Oh and wait... The pixel tablet coming out will have a 4 year old SoC aswell and all designed by Samsung... The company with the worst flagship and mid range SoCs on the market with the worst modems in them too 👍

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2022I'd be interested in smartwatches but they're not... moreI used to use the LG watch R back in like 2014 for calculations and reading/replying to messages when I worked in a convenient store. At the end of the day you had to collect all the newspapers and calculate the amount left for them/amount of papers left and each type of paper so it was incredibly handy for that plus we weren't allowed our phones on the shop floor so being able to see if anyone's messaged/needed me to pick something up from the shop was also handy.
Not just fitness that makes sense with a smart watch and it's been this way for almost 10 years now.

Vector Luna had 30 day battery life and was all around awesome.
Fitbit bought Vector.
Google bought Fitbit.
Why didn't Google implement their technology (which they now own)?!

I'd be interested in smartwatches but they're not really useful to those who aren't into fitness features of a watch. If they can partially replace a smartphone like having it's own LTE network, GPS, in built, storage, wifi bluetooth, NFC etc then I'll think of getting one maybe. IDC if it is big and heavy, because it's going to be but a watch should have functionality more than just being something for fitness. I'm not interested in health and fitness

Lets see if it reaches the accuracy levels of apple watch. For tht price, atleast should have used the latest chipset and should have gone with a square design.
