I was thinking the same. Why not use iPhone Xs display and design? Put some nice A14 chipset inside, price it correctly (maybe around 500-550EUR) and it will be instant success. But, I doubt Apple will do anything nice for its customers.
So, iPhone Xr/11 panel and design it is. Lol.

Best thing about SE is the size. SE based on XR would be pointless because size will grow to same as their regular phones. Better to retain 8 design but remove the fingerprint to increase the screen a bit. FP can be on the side orn whatever

SE is welcomed, with finger print scanner in power button at side, single punch hole selfie cam and want it in chasis of Iphone 12 not XR....

if there will be no face id why not use a punch hole or U notch for better screen realestate(unless they are recycling old panels)

Well, nothing new. It was expected.
The real issue will be the price. Knowing Apple, they will probably increase the price. I am guessing somewhere at 600-650EUR. Making it the "cheapest" iPhone you can buy.
You can buy a 180EUR Galaxy A13-SM137 (with similar specs, lol), if someone just wants basic smartphone features (calls, messages, web browsing, casual gaming).

It'll be XR's design for sure. It would be stupid not to go that route. In fact we were all hoping they'd use XR's design for SE 2022 already, but they insisted on iPhone 8's design.
Considering experience I have with XR, upgrading it with newer chipset (my guess is that it won't get A16, but A15 instead) will actually make it a massive upgrade to SE 2022. Bigger display, bigger battery, huge display at still compact form factor for today's standards, single camera, but that one is still very much capable and competent.
