It's been said in the past that emerging markets prefer larger phones because the consumers are less likely to have a computer. This could be why the Chinese market has had some smaller phones recently as the economy continues to improve.

From my POV it seems that people are buying the bigger phone because it is generally the better phone. Not because they just love big phones. The iPhone 14 Plus has to compete with the 14 Pro Max.

I don't think people really wanted it for its size, if that was the case, then Mini would be a selling hit, but it wasn't, just like all other "mini" phones.

They should've already used the xr design in this years model and they should use the 12 (mini) design in 2024.
If it would be the 12 mini design the phone would be atleast compact and have oled and an uw camera.
If apple will go through with the xr design, the Se series would be lost.

SShock, 10 Oct 2022It'll be XR's design for sure. It would be stupid... moreI think the XR design would under perform the same way the 14 Plus is under performing due to the size of the phone. IMO they would be better off using the iPhone 12 body even if they use an LCD, but I guess a lot of it just depends on price. It's hard to know if the iPhone SE's have sold well because of size, price or a combination of both.

Prio... moreI dont think average joe is interested in old design, for people who are interested in looks they are better of with older iphones like 11 or 12 series.
With iphone Se is more of Enthuasist/Geek device, you get latest soc from Apple in boring design.

The new SE is supposed to launch in 2024 which means production will start next year last quarter. By that time XR would have been out of production for more than two years. I don't think Apple will setup pipelines or procure parts just for the SE model. Next year 12 is supposed to go out of production, I think that or 12 mini will be used as base for the next SE.

An iPhone SE based on XR but with a side-mounted Touch ID scanner for cost-cutting purposes. Yeah. That’ll be the first SE with variations in hardware other than the chip and battery.

Why not choose iphone X design ?Because for an SE model, they take the same shell of an older model with same screen and single camera (so far) and sell it to users with recent chip at a lower cost. iPhone X based model means it’ll have an OLED screen and dual cameras, which would end up costing more. Personally I wouldn’t mind such a model costing between 550 and 600$ starting with 128gb storage. Also more compact than XR. But Apple decides what to do.
But I guess such a model might take sales from a new regular iPhone. They need to distinguish the models from each other so there won’t be any cannibalising.
That’s why XR with single camera and LCD screen.
