Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE, Xiaomi 13 Lite, and Xiaomi Civi 2 might all be the same device

29 October 2022
The naming scheme plot thickens as the Xiaomi 13 Lite seems to share its model number with the 12 Lite 5G NE.

The depth camera was useful back in the day. Now, not so much. The image processing has been good enough to discern image depth. An additional dedicated depth camera is actually adding extra build cost. So does the macro camera which most people never used.

It tires to see Xiaomi that practically after three generations continues with the same screen size 6.55" and does not increase to 6.6" 1080x2460p, although I do not deny that the cameras and processor they carry for the price range is a marvel, but in video recording, the stabilization is not so good at 1080p @60fps and the lack of IP54....

Xiaomi phones are nice, but their naming convention is very bad. And the fact that Redmi and Poco phones exist, make it even worse.
Redmi Note 11 models are just one of the examples. In my country there were 5-6 similar models, with somehow similar specs and similar prices (between 200-350EUR). Very hard to make a good decision which of them to get. Especially because, most likely, Xiaomi will not follow up with good software update each of those models. So, it's a lottery which of them gets better and faster software updates (because is not always the expensive model who gets them first).

this design is one of the best design for any smart phone and miles better than ugly iPhone.
If apple can use that ugly design for decades than surely Xiaomi can use this beautiful design atleast for couple of models.
Why apple get the kiss from gsmarena even after using the same iphone 13 as iphone 14, same iphone SE again and again? Why this same double standard apple fan people act disgusted when Xiaomi does that only for two generation?

Don't really think it matters what it's called. It's a pretty nice phone. Good shutter speed in the camera. The ISP in the snapdragon 7 gen 1 is fairly good. The only real drawbacks are the single speaker and no OIS. Still, compared it to a Redmi note 12 pro today with the dimensity 1080 which has the same main sensor (imx766) and OIS and I think it's clear that the Civi 2 has the better main camera for photos but especially for video. There is no stabilisation on the Redmi Note 12 pro at 4k or 1080p 60 fps. The Civi at least has stabilisation on 4k 30 (although it's not great stabilisation it's still a lot better than having none). The better ISP and optimisation, and way faster shutter speed more than makes up for the lack of OIS.

What's the matter of selling a phone with the same name across the whole world? Samsung, Apple, and Sony never do that. I only see this thing happening with Chinese brands.

[deleted post]Chinese "toys" are selling just as much as Apple or Samsung m8, and Huawei was on path to destroy those two before USA needed to protect its ego and flex it's economic mussels.

Xiaomi's rebranding is annoying yes, but at least make sense when critising it.

Look, rebranding Civi 2 for international market makes sense, Civi name has weight in China but means nothing internationally.

BUT WHY MAKE IT 2 DEVICES THAT SHOULD BE GOING ONE AFTER ANOTHER.

I really hope this is just Xiaomi not being sure how they should rebrand it and it's gonna be one of those two, or both but 13 Lite will feature upgrades that will make name changed logical.

[deleted post]The name argument is straight stupid. Why? Because not all are available everywhere, and often they have little differences to adapt a specific market.
Everyone should see and search phones in their country/areas (like EU) and then everything will be simple.
