deewinc, 02 Nov 2022Isn't it about time that we have cameras in DSLR lense... moreSony did exactly just that with the QX series all the way back in 2014. The top-range QX1 even has the same 20.1MP APS-C sensor as in the A5000 Mirrorless camera. The only problem was that the whole lineup was way too ahead of its time. It completely relies on Bluetooth connectivity and the reliability of Bluetooth was patchy during those times, especially on iOS.

Mayur, 02 Nov 2022It’s not new check for Motorola camera modsI definitely remembered the Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mods. If Moto Mods still lives on in 2022, there would be a 1" 30x zoom version of that particular mod.

S882D, 02 Nov 2022and the average consumer will benefit from this how? com... moreI disagree.
The point of this device isn't for "average consumers" not unless there is a photography revolution in the works. In fact, most expensive phones (outside of maybe an iPhone) don't actually benefit the average consumer.

If you want the best phone for the average consumer, go for the Samsung Galaxy A52-S. It still has years of software updates, plenty fast experience, and camera. Anything better is on the point of diminishing returns. For instance, if you "upgrade" to the Samsung S22+ for the better camera, but you end up ruining the shots with your custom filters and high compression and upload it to your social media account. Back in the day, maybe as late as 2016, when going from a mid-range to a flagship phone you did get tangible and noticeable improvements for the average user... now with these luxury phones you don't, and in some cases you have a regression (less features, less ergonomic, worse thermal or battery properties, etc etc).

So yah, this device is neat, because it's my concept from years ago, and it is for the pro-consumer or enthusiasts, NOT your average user.

and the average consumer will benefit from this how?

coming from a rando with a smartphone and a dlsr, they really are made for different things. you want decent images in less than a sec, get a smartphone. really into picking in and producing the best image, get a dlsr.

this looks cool on paper but will flop like that g5 module rubbish

Basically a hybrid between smartphone & mirrorless camera.. Really a nice concept.

Because it have a standard Leica M adapter, it will open up for other lens as well such Sony E & Fuji X .. the downsides it will be much thicker, have unpleasant weight to hold & required a steady hand.

Also seems like Xiaomi just drop the telephoto lens and replaced it with secondary 1" sensors. Wonder if that will affect the internal components especially the battery capacity. And that probably the reason why this device remain just a concept device.

this is a really innovative solution, yes it has been tried before to a point by using various custom built lens for phones, but this is the first time actual dedicated camera lens has been able to mount directly to the phone.
My only concern here is how does the app and processing algorithms handle the final image, its all well and good attaching a $2000 Lens to the back of the camera, but if it still shoots and adds too much horrid processing that makes the image look NO better then the original smartphone then what would be the point?
I would like to think a proper pro app along with much better NON smartphone processing would really set this apart from the rest of the crowd in terms of image quality
