I'm still on first firmware, didn't update, ain't broken don't fix it

Remember in 2018 when Sony had a more stable version of Android OS than even Google's own in their Pixel phones? They beat Google's very own stock Android OS with 0.8% crash rate (vs. 0.9% crash rate on stock Android) and I believe it still holds true to today. If smoothness and stability of iOS were to be inherited by Android OS, then Sony's Android software would best illustrate this.

I still prefer Android for torrents and emulators. Easier to side load apps. Better for multimedia with apps like MX Player Pro which plays all kinds of video formats.

My favorite device remains my Flip 3 followed by my Razr 5G. I'm just using my iPhone SE 2016 and 2022 together to give my foldable flip phones a break until S2 of House of the Dragon airs in 2024. Then I can go back to my Razr 5G and start downloading episodes from a torrent app like Flud.

I also own Pixel 3 and Essential Phone which both retired over a year ago but they still work flawlessly while still on Android 9. For fluidity and camera, I prefer Pixel. For hardware and features, Samsung. I think iPhones are fine but I do get bored with them very quickly.

I prefer typing on my Android. SwiftKey works much better on it. Copy and paste seems easier. With iOS, the option to select all won't show up. Both platforms have flaws but I prefer Android because it's open enough to correct them.

        Favs and currently own
        1. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
        2. Motorola Razr 5G
        3. Google Pixel 3
        4. Essential Phone
        5. Apple iPhone SE 2022 (my daily driver)
        6. Apple iPhone SE 2016 (always next to my SE3)
        7. LG G5
        8. Xiaomi Mi 3
        9. Google Nexus 5
        10. BlackBerry Bold 9900

Owned about 50 phones since Christmas 1999, used 20 different brands, and 6 different OSes. My favorites remain phones that uses Android. I'm thinking of getting old phones because I do miss headphone jack and have a bunch of microSD cards lying around since getting a Switch Lite. But a lot of my phones are stored in my laptop bag in the side pockets.

I'll probably be looking at an HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S10e, and a Sony Xperia ZR, Z3 Compact, or XZ1 Compact to help put my microSDs to use. Maybe do something different like Xperia Play, Yotaphone 2, or BlackBerry Classic or KeyOne.

If you call Sony a "random brand, " you're clearly trolling. Sony articles, especially Xperia seem to generate the most discussions on this website from what I've seen.

This would translate to 1/5 IV to end their upgrades at Android 14 and have security patches until 2025 but as the time goes on more and more security patches will be batched together so in 2024/2025 expect maybe one or two update rollouts with cumulative security patches.

Also, sensor is based on imx803 used by iphones pro, sony electronics was not allowed to have its bayer variant before iphones were out.
So, there was never chance mark 4 with them.

Sony electronics saves money by asking varaint of sensor already made. This is why imx557 and 703 (13 pro max) are equal to imx555 (s20) .

No (non Google) Android maker offers 4 version upgrades who needs that, better buys some iphone.
Sony is actually better than average upgrader and always has been. Back in the days of Neo and Arc, Sony was actually the best (in Android world).

I never did factory reset since i bought my p... moreYou shouldn't be surprised that a more recent device and/or more recent android version and One UI performs better than an old one. The thing is though, as a non-Samsung user in my day to day, I also experience One UI as lagging on occasion still.

Whenever my co-worker shows something on this phone (S22 Ultra), switching from apps or loading and app, I see the lag. Even when opening the app drawer or pulling down the quick menu at times. He doesn't notice it because he is used to it. I'm sure it's less noticeable and less frequent than on an older S10 or S20, but still not lag free. It amazes me how the biggest player in the android space still can't get this right.

The reason why ios users still, in 2022, claims that android is laggy is due to Samsung phones and hyper budget devices. Sony, Xiaomi, Motorola etc. doesn't have this UI lag in their above 150EUR phones.

Some offer very interesting models hardware-wise (Sony, Asus), but their update and patch support period is way too short.
Recently I was looking for a new phone 'cos Huawei ceased support for my former device (I use phone as a banking terminal, etc., so security is very important for me). I keep phones in trousers' pocket so it had to be relatively small device. I considered the Zenfone and one of Xperias, as the smallest pieces of Android-based hardware, but after a lot of brainstorming finally got iPhone 13 mini. Not 'cos I'm Apple-fan (definitely I'm not; this is the first and only Apple device I've ever had), but the mix of more_than_decent hardware and very long manufacturer's support was the decisive factor here.

Some time ago Samsung had these nice A4x-series models (plus S10e one) with small-size factor, but decided to discontinue this particular line. Pity, 'cos Samsung device would be high on my list, thanks to its long (for an Android world) software support policy.

And referring to your post - currently, if one wants an Android-based device and long support, Samsung is IMHO the only choice.
Apple is - in this particular matter - better, but not everyone may be willing to change the whole (eco)system and pay premium price for it.

The best UI is always the one someone is used to. At the moment, at least. That's it. I've contact with Samsung phones and I don't find One UI better in any significant way than EMUI on my old Huawei or iOS on my current iPhone. It's different, but not better.

You can immediately tell a person is lying in here, when he/she starts giving precise percentages about anything.
I mean, did you count all your friends with Samsung phones, compare it with the total number of your friends and get 70%? Lol.

I had my share of Samsung phones. I don't know the exact number, but I had more than 5 that's for sure (including second hand ones). True, that the low-end or cheaper models do lag sometime (but tell me one Android brand who doesn't lag in cheaper models). But, Samsung flagships are very good (I've used second hand phones like S10+, S20 or Note 10 Plus in 2022 and the phones are not slow at all, even with latest Android versions).
So, either your "friends" have cheaper Samsung models or you are telling a lie, just to prove some point, in which only you believe.
