Why can't just make a decent kernel that can manage it automatically? Like use high performance when loading and switching apps but going in to low power mode when the app is loaded and doesn't use much CPU? Custom ROMs would be great if Samsung would allow them.

I still need to install Game Plugins GameBooster+ just to increase the resolution back to full because every game doesn't run on native resolution by default with GOS and you need a Samsung account iirc to get that plugin.

If battery life is important just buy a smartphone with huge 6000mah battery or more and use a power saver mode and dim the screen
This will give much better battery life then iPhone ever can
The Asus Rog 6 has better battery life then iPhone for example

-Cortex A78 at 2.42ghz use 1.66W in Samsung 5nm
-Cortex A77 at 2.4ghz use 1.39W in Tsmc 7nm
Both are efficient but Tsmc has advantage
If that Cortex A78 manufactured with tsmc node 6nm or lower would consume less power, but you can see even with inferior node Cortex A78 use less power. Thats why sd 780G and Exynos 1280 even though are manufactured by samsung they are not bad.
X1 and X2 were supposed to provide burst perfomance but in my opinion are not good enough when they throttle they became worse than A78 and when they run full speed no phone can coll them, they are good in Tablet and laptop though.
I hope X3 will provide good perfomance even when it throttle.

They did make Gos to make phone last longer and preserve battery life, but people Moan over it, and samsung pushed update to fix it, now they introduced lite mode (not power saving mode which include lot of things like reducing brightness, limiting background task etc) so this is like Gos part 2 but optional

Sd 888 got lot of criticism because it was first soc to overheat since sd 810 era, Oem was caught by suprise and didnt optimise their phone effectively. To understand this better look at sd 888 phone which came recently, all of them have better battery life,

-Realme GT2 with 115H endurance and 18H and 22H browsing and video score
-oppo find X5 with 108H endurance and 15H and 20H browsing and video score
-vivo Iqoo 9 with 105H endurance and 14H and 15H browsing and video (with just 4350mah battery)
-Motorola Edge 30 fusion with 101H endurance with 12H and 14H in browsing and video (with just 4400mah)
These were recent phones when Oem knew what to do with power hungry soc. And remember this is from Samsung node if it were Tsmc battery life would be even better.
Sd8G1 and 8+G1 are monsters when it come to power consumption, 8G1 use as much as 10 to 12W and 8+G1 around 8.5W to 10W.
