I got a surprise for you: Theres nothing to steal! They are both below 5 percent. Ofcors Sony must aim for higher end galaxy models and iphones.
iphones are not cheap if you look at unlocked prices, yet it is selling more than twice as much Hushaway and ZTE put together.

Intel did the same when Core i7 first launched, they created a new class where the competition could not follow.
ZL is for high end and Z for premium. Rumors about Malaysian prices suggests the ZL is priced competitively.

This year, Sony will eventually eat lots of Samsung's market share, and Nokia will become a big player again too. Not really sure what will happen to Apple. But HTC and BlackBerry will be doomed.

Sony,
Why aim for the 3rd spot? Aim for the 1st spot. Manufacture more phones and sale less, you will still be classified top manufacturer.

What Sony need right now is creating mid range phones with low end prices and flood the market with them if they want to go on par with Huawei or ZTE. Because that's how those brands got their share, by exploiting the low and middle end niche which forms the greatest share of the market. Struggling to create high end products with expensive RnD, ending up with a few expensive items that's not everyone can buy, not to mention having to compete with other high end manufacturer, is never an answer in multinational competition.
Sony have to improve their marketing strategies, including advertisement, after-sales services and longer quality value.

Xperia Z/ZL so far the best smartphone. Unfortunately they are equipped with one generation older hardware sich as the CPU.
Another big issue with its 13 MP camera is not able to capture super sharp image and lack of optimization of mobil BRAVIA ENGINE for not able to enhancethe video and photo from browser.
If Sony seriously want to reduce the gap between the 1st tier smartphone makers such A pple, Samsung and LG, they must release a revolutionary and breakthrough phone.

Sony's goal will be made easier given that Samsung is falling. Boring phones all looking like each other, repeating Blackberry's previous mistake.

I also believe in Sony. I know that they will put up a good fight this year and in the coming years. Xperia Z is just one hell of a proof that they can put innovations on their products. Xperia Z can even blow the Note 2 out of the water but Note 2 also has advantages over the Z which is the S pen for example but Z is not intended to have a stylus anyway. The S4 might be a little more advanced than the Z but I know Sony will be able to outdo the future products of Sammy since it's a never ending cycle. One will soon get outdated but Apple is on a different league, they've always been outdone by any other OEMs. Viva Sony! :)

Looks very difficult for SONY to come out of the woods so to speak.....they will need a real solid line up of phones to be back in the market....Hope so they do it.
In today's mobile world the competition is very severe..not only with the big guns APPLE and SAMSUNG fighting it out but even from the likes of LG and some of the emerging Chinese brands who are also offering decent phones for the price...very interesting to guess what will happen next!

AnonD-80584, 04 Mar 2013clearly they dont... thats why they've lost their name in p... moreTrue thats why i left also sony that time. but during the first xperia s launch. i was shocked that there's no more sony memory stick, Microusb as for the charger and 3.5 mm jack on earphone. its not the sony they are used to be. look at the xperia lineup. it has universal feature also. so in time they learn their mistakes. marketing division i say is now no cheapsake they are wiser than before. if they really want to become a better player dont compromise on their strength such as camera just look at xperia T and Z, 13 mp ok quality. but they have to improve no matter what dont compromised. as for the battery well a little more is good but if ever i get xperia z ill really check. due to improve performance of s4 pro is equivalent of snapdragon s600 and optimized of user interface maybe i should not worry of battery life. since most of forums at xda says they are satisfied.
