antiba1as, 17 Nov 2022Apple DOESN'T EVEN COMPARE to the Garmin ecosystem! So... moreI am deep in the Apple ecosystem and own 5 Apple Watches that I wear all the time. Garmin is the only other smart watch that I will buy. I currently own 6 Garmin watches and plan to buy the Epix 2. The newer Garmin watches are so much more functional, they are good Apple watch replacements.

Too expensive, too big, with mediocre specs. Nah, I don't see how this could be a choice for parents.

So excited to have the opportunity to pay for BOTH the device AND LTE service through Garmin for my child(ren) to be part of the Garmin ecosystem that I've loved for years (I have the Epix 2 and have had many of the devices since their first). Already ordered and SOOO excited (despite Garmin's competitor's negative reviews!)!

I'm so excited to have the opportunity to pay for BOTH the device AND LTE service through Garmin for my child(ren) to be part of the Garmin ecosystem that I've loved for years (I have the Epix 2 and have had many of the devices since their first). And YES: 2 days for a device running both LTE and multi GPS for my child(ren)'s safety is PLENTY fine (and expected for anyone who comprehends these technologies)! Already ordered and SOOO excited (despite Garmin's competitor's negative reviews!)!

The biggest red flag is that Garmin account and app requirement. In addition to of course, the dismayal battery life, huge size, etc

A variety of implementations might've happened, but Garmin chose to run with the times. Clearly, this is a service, not a product, don't be confused. You're dependent on the company for whatever time you have this. Assuming the company stays (this assumption always exists anyways).

err... battery only last for 2 days?

Also a lot of phones that get water damage "can" still work after the water is tried up

HyperionBurn, 15 Nov 2022First of all it makes kids look cool, and it’s not too expe... moreSome weird arguments. Like why 5 years old phone will lose water resistance cause it's 5 years old ? Also do we live in water world that there is always issues with water ? And also why do you think smartphones are not allowed in school ? They are allowed in school but not on the classes when they study. I dont think any smartphone is allowed even for collage students when they are in classes. And also why is it a problem when kids lose there parents 5 years old phone ? This type of thing happens and it isn't like it wont happen if you have a new phone. Also wrist watch can get damaged when kids play.

If to think everything as worse case scenario

                          Nvm the stupid watch:

" Parents control the smartwatch via the Garmin Jr. app and need to have an active Garmin Connect account to set up the watch. The LTE features require a subscription, which starts at $10/€11 per month."

WTF Garmin. Not even Apple has gone that far to charge monthly for LTE.

Are there any good alternatives that are as easy to use and are cheaper?

It ultimately got cancelled and we were refunded but yeah.) As for waterproofing yeah good point but, while kids can be accident prone, they're not near open pools of water a whole lot at school. Also, the 2017 iPhone X is waterproof, as is the S8, and I believe the LG G6. Granted waterproof seals do become less reliable over time but my iPhone 8 is still waterproof even after nearly 5 years.
