He's definitely overestimating his capacities and joins fights he absolutely has no need or reason to fight (like those kids being buried in a cave fiasco). However he's far from incompetent. He does not have a history of incompetence even if he has made questionable moves.
Jumping straight from "he overestimated his abilities" to being "a poster child of Dunning Kruger effect" on people's estimations *is* reflecting badly on people making those estimations.
I mean Twitter was a sinking ship long before he even showed any interest in buying it. If it goes down faster (under him) will reflect badly, but not as badly as you (or those publications) make it seem. A bad (stupid, rather) business move is a bad business move, it is not some weird psychological metric.
And in general for all his faults, it's better to have business people who take risks and sometimes fail than business people who never take risks and all they ever do is milk the same product for decade (hello Apple/iphone).
One at least has a chance to move the world forwards, the other ends up a leech...

Subscriber count isn't an accurate indicator of content quality. For example I watch Tech Spurt and Tim Schofield, both are under a million subs, but their content looks better and honest compared to paid, big youtubers that just talk praises about any new devices that lands in their office. And PBK reviews, which gets the latest phones for teardown but has less than 100k subs. There are plenty of such small reviewers, and I keep looking for those when it comes to tech, at least. Some big youtubers are actually good example Jerry Rig and Doug Demuro, but ones like Everything Apple Pro for example, they're the ones to avoid
