I can't wait to buy a phone that says made and assembled in USA on it 😁
As long as it's not assembled in china, I really don't care about the price.
      Greetings from Europe.

Even NASA chose RISC-V instead of propriety ARM, China is absolute beast when it comes to talent and it will be very hard for US to beat unless they change draconian VISA laws that makes it hard for PHDs to even work in the country.

70%? In that case they are in need of some competition.

China is fabricating over one billion chips a day and exporting more than 10% of those chips. Two years ago, it was buying about $400 billion in foreign chips with the US selling 60% of those chips and zero exports. Today, US chip purchases not only have declined but prices of these chips have taken a nose dive and US semiconductor company stocks have taken a $1.2 trillion dollar hit. Profits are becoming harder to come by and R&D funding is evaporating. Further, the US is ramping up fab at the leading edge of 5nm and smaller. That market is in decline now and even TSMC has refocused on mature node chips and idled 4 EUV lithography machines and asked employees to take a vacation. The US could be in for a rude supply of a much smaller market than their new fabs can economically operate at. Further, the US could have a problem staffing these fabs.
China and Russia, unlike the West, seem to have access to what they need. China is buying FF from Russia because they get a good deal on it.
So now it is expected that China will produce 70% of its chips in 2025. Astounding. I know that was the 5 year target, but thought that the target would not be met. And i expect that the RISC-V architecture is far superior to the Intel x86 which has a lot of crap in its design due to the limits of early technology.

So mass production starting with 2024 for 5nm and 3nm
5nm will still be worldwide mass for low-mid tier smartphones and for the upcoming windows arm systems that will come up 1-2 years from now
3nm will still start with M2 pro/max in the spring 2023 but from Taiwan and after from this for the iphones, macs, and Intel in 2024
