He's doing it now because the US threatened to cut TSMC off.

Kek 2.0, 21 Nov 2022Doesn't matter, it's turning Blue and will become... moreYeah, that pattern that also aligns with how many illegals cross that border every year, what a coincidence!

Have you seen the voting map distribution for Texas?

          https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-beto-orourke-shifted-the-map-in-texas/

Go on and tell me those votes aren't from illegals. Literally the cities that are next to the border + the ones with a lot of illegal population are the "Blue" areas that you mention.

The "increase in voters" that the article mentions is due to the anchor babies gaining voting rights (even when their parents, in a lot of cases, decide to still be illegals for some reasons).

And again, once they turn that state blue, they will be the first ones to move away, like they did in Cali, and will go to another state and spread their disease. Seems like they never learn.

so basically TSMC wants to move their production to the U.S. so if China invades, US and other Western companies will be able to acces competitive chips

Once it becomes Blue and they implement stupid policies like Cali did, watch all those businesses moving away.

Florida is not a place to be, they want to emulate Handmaidens tale.

Texas is a good choice and I think TSMC... moreYeah I know Florida has a history of hurricanes but I'd imagine there are areas that aren't generally as badly hit. I'm happy to admit I'm not sure about that though, I don't live in Florida. So them yeah, why not choose Texas? Moving to a Dem state isn't a good idea since they love stifling business. That's why Musk is moving some of Tesla to Texas. Newsome is seemingly hellbent on making Cali undesirable for business

Anders, 21 Nov 2022They should've chosen Florida or Texas otherwise when ... moreHere’s the problem. Texas is a good choice and I think TSMC could’ve gone there considering Arizona being dry (water needed for semiconductor production?) but Florida is a big no-no due to hurricanes. Did you see what Hurricane Ian did to the state? Flooding everywhere! The factory would be flooded virtually every time a hurricane struck!
                        Basically, it’s probably about geology.
For example, I’ve heard that Intel is going to have a chip factory SPECIFICALLY in Albany, Ohio (💀) because it had something to do with the area being the least likely place in the US to be struck by any natural disasters. There won’t be that many hiccups due to storms or anything of the like.
Arizona, on the other hand, I don’t have much knowledge about whether or not they have earthquakes because they’re so close to California, but I believe they do have Dust storms.
But the water in AZ. TSMC must have come up with a solution to this imo. There’s no way.

What’s interesting is that I’ve heard this plant will use one of TSMC’s most advanced nodes (?), at 5nm. I don’t know how far behind this will fab will be once it opens in 2024 however since 3nm is coming soon.
Also, as someone said about water needed to make semiconductors, Arizona is HOT HOT HOT. Like, they are literally painting streets gray instead of black in order to reflect sun rays to keep cool (look it up). There’s no way TSMC didn’t think of this and water in the area considering they’re such a big company. They have got to have a solution. And I think this is their first fab in the US.
I wonder if people in GSMArena are REALLY opposed to it though, especially with the anti-American slander in recent months. I’m not gonna lie, some of the American companies here have been acting pretty greedy, even if it’s just US divisions of foreign companies.
                          …and I’m American 😐.

and how much extra will this tech now cost if chips are produced in the USA? surely after spending $12 billion and paying US wages the margins would rise significantly wouldnt they?
