04 December 2022
The microSD card grew to bigger and bigger capacities over the years and got faster along the way. So why is it waning in popularity?

Id rather pay 1 time with 1tb sdcard than waste money every month.

Cloud storage is far more secure than any SD card. Unless google is going to suddenly disappear, which at this point in time is probably unlikely or impossible, there is no reason to not just upload everything to the cloud. Even if I lose my whole phone with the SD card inside, cloud storage still retains my data and a backup of my device. Considering you can just go on many websites and buy an old pixel device to get unlimited cloud storage and then just keep that phone at home or you can setup your own cloud backup server from your own house.

Only a small like percentage of the "tech enthusiasts" ppl want these rare hardware specs on devices. Why do you think Sony market share for smartphones is constantly declining year over year even though they are the only ones keeping headphone jacks and SD card slots on their flagship phones? Because their target is the niche not the majority. Why would a business target the small niche of the market? It doesn't make sense. Sony should just leave the mobile smartphone industry like LG did before they start to hemorrhage money.

There are many valid reasons for wanting to use an SD card. Files are becoming larger, especially as we are taking 4k videos, high res pictures, and larger gaming. SD cards serve as an excellent backup in case the phone quits on you. I have never run out of storage since using an SD card. However, I have seen many iphone users are in this endless cycle of running out of storage and deleting all their files.

Shouldn't we allow for options to accommodate all rather than ram one person's ideas down our throats? I see people smugly disparage the SD card while the existence of the slot has no effect on them... you are not required to use it. The SD card usually goes opposite of the SIM card, so it is not an argument that the card hinders space or performance.

Remember with cloud services you are handing your data over to commercial providers and you are vulnerable to hacking, theft of data, or even censorship (never say never). You are also dependent on a constant internet connection.

I think LG quit too soon. They had a solid line of phones and always came with what we need. The OS was great too! Samsung is too busy chasing the iphone. Samsung really needs to go back to what made them successful and give their customers what they want.

ME, 07 Dec 2022With Google all your pics go automatically to the cloud.Exactly. That's what most people do anyway, thus less and less people actually bother with an SD card.

AnonD-1058210, 06 Dec 2022Woow good luck with ip68 if you would want removable batter... moreYes I think all smartphone should have many ports that can fit on them user removable bigger battery's and expandable Storage roboust active cooling system

The reason I say this because processor run hot and smartphone overheating is a real problem for high end processor and flagship smartphones and desktop grade SSD benefit of a fast boot drives will improve the user experience in smoothness loading times multi tasking by miles

This is why smartphones should have all of this
Is for smooth long lasting performance and being repairable

About trying too water proof this it's possible with a water proof seal that opens and closes and plugs and stuff too protect the many ports air vents and so on

Yes it will be a lot harder too water proof and make rugged and keep repairable

                    A easyer way for engineering
just have a water proof and screen protector rugged case with a ip rating of it's own that the Smartphone can wear for water proofing

Internal storage is way faster (UFS > eMMC > Memory Card) but also expensive. That's why external storage is mandatory.

                                    1) stuck with their old ones
                                    2) imported a Samsung with BOTH IP68 and Removable batteries from US/EU
                                    3) bought ones with sealed battery even if they didn't like it.
