YUKI93, 05 Dec 2022I assume Sony is trying to gamble on its proprietary soluti... moreIt was because the PSP had some huge piracy issues.
People complain about the custom memory cards on PSP, but very quickly adapters for it came out.
Also the security was beyond poor so hacking one was super easy.
Still have my Vita, 2 clean and one hacked, it took them a good while to hack those so Sony did succeed on that regard, also all solutions for the custom memory cards have their share of issues.
However no reason to praise sony, as they did a ultimate anti consumer move there, those memory cards were bloody expensive even when the system was considered done.
Not to mention that the quality of these cards was laughable, sony asked a premium for something they made of worse quality than cheapest cards back then.
Unreliable mess.
That’s what I like more about nintendo, they just went the most used method route, this even when I like my Vita more.

Who says micro sd cards are dead. I purchase these every few months. Few have corrupted but most of Samsung ones still work. With prices going down I keep moving to higher storage memory cards. I keep my FLAC file in it as in case of phone screen broken down I can save my data before repairing guy format my phone, as they do when you send them your phones to repair. But still 512 gb and 1tb micro sd cards are out of my budget. So I can safely say micro sd cards aren't dead, even they haven't reached their peak popularity yet.

Even for my 2014 HP laptop with Intel Pentium CPU, I have no problem hitting 100MB/s when transferring files from my microSD card when I replaced the laptop's old HDD with a new SSD, even if it's only a 2.5" SATA type since it's the only compatible part.

Not a apple fan but jeez people on this site always blame everything on apple, maybe I should blame apple I forgot my lunch at home.

While I'd love to have a Micro-SD card slot, my problem with Micro-SD is the painfully slow speeds when transferring data.

magnaroader, 05 Dec 2022Honestly I don't understand the need to remove SD card... moreMotorola is also dropping microsd more often than not lately.
Anyhow it is not about what consumers need, the smartphone manufacturers never cared about that.
Bigger phones only, no chargers in box, much higher prices, no 3,5mm, no microsd… and the list goes on for a long while, it is about what smartphone manufacturers think you need, they now the majority of users just accept it, they do that because they know they can get away with that and even more.
The day companies like apple, samsung and xiaomi remove the charging port will be the next step, some will complain, but 90% will buy it without hassle, even while it is inconvenient in most cases, you pretty sure have to buy the brick and charging puck again, and people will also believe all the PR around it.
Ow and they hike up the prices again too, because of course.
Companies get away with it and that is the whole point.

Mediatek sux, 05 Dec 2022Emualtion is 100% legalDon’t claim stuff that isn’t entirely true.
As a game collector myself, emulation is legal but the roms are not, and games are roms.
Also how legal a rom is DEPENDS ON LAW THAT VARY PER COUNTRY.
So it is legal in the US to have a ROM of a game you physically own, hut in a lot of countries it is still piracy because making the copy itself was already illegal, let alone the use of it.
Different countries and different laws, it is so tiring people still don’t understand that.

There's no technical reason why microSD (and also 3.5mm jack) is in decline. Because there hasn't been a better solution. For example, HDD is in decline because of SSD which is better in most cases. Or micro USB format is replaced by USB C which is better.
But microSD and 3.5mm jack haven't been replaced with anything better so that they should be in decline.
Rather these are in decline due to greedy OEM policies. If microSD is used, they can't steal your data and can't steal your money by forcing cloud services. Similarly, if 3.5mm jack is used, they can't sell you ridiculously overpriced TWS. Unfortunately you'll see in comment section people defending those OEM decisions.

Glad to see that Sony keeps SD card slot/audio jack combo of his entire smartphones line-up, it is unfortunately a dying breed but it is not obsolete unlike what some mainstream consumers believe.

As a current Galaxy S21 user, I definitely have to admit that the lack of microSD card support really hurts my daily workflow a lot. So much so that I have to use my NexDock 360 lapdock that I bought primarily for DeX use just to transfer files to my microSD card. It's not surprising to know why people still highly rate the Galaxy S10 series as the best Samsung flagship to date.
