If people bought only stuff they cared about because of brand name, Lamborghini and Pagani would never survive next to names like Ferrari.
Or what about Hyundai who developed massively and now is good alternative to Japanese car brands? That wouldn't happen if people only bought because of name.
Truth is, most people don't buy things because they are status symbols, but enough do so that companies that rely on it can easily survive.

Also, nowhere online can you find, at least not easily, data for one specific model, just all phones, so nice try.
And once more, people who buy for what they like the most won't care if Xiaomi makes 100 dollar phones, they will buy what they like, only egotistical people obsessed with consumerism and looking better then others care about that.

People who can afford a $1000 for a phone wouldn't spend it on a brand like Xiaomi. They would buy either Apple or Samsung (or Huawei for the Chinese). Nobody capable of spending $1000 for a phone would want to be seen sporting the same phone brand as people who can only afford $100 Xiaomi. That's the reality, and the marketshare data speaks for itself. Even the Chinese people don't want to buy Xiaomi if they can afford not to. They'd rather buy Huawei or Apple.

Realme surprised Xiaomi with its racy design and this is the Xiaomi response. Realme moved nicely up in sales. Expect more of this reaction from Xiaomi. Oh, the smartphone is moving into a collectible product category. I got 1+ 7T Pro McLaren I use for show and wanted to get the ZenFone 7 for its unique rotate selfie but it's out of my reach now. Oh, I have a fast 4G phone for practical reasons (cannot stomach 5G that I think will make people suffer).

They will tell u things like, I like the operating system etc but they really just bought it because of social validation,so you have a point but I know those kind of people are like 50% or below.

Go look at what brand of shirt, shoes, car, etc that you use. If you can afford a BMW, would you buy a KIA at BMW price?

To me, it looks like someone scraped off some nicks and bits from the back plate. Truely the ugliest phone I've seen in ages.
BTW, who is this Daniel Arsham guy? I'm (and all of my friends are) more familier with Xiaomi than him.
