Anonymous, 04 Dec 2022WrongNo, not really. Not everyone has money to pay for an internet plan.

Inva, 06 Dec 2022What are you even babbling about? Google didn't invent... moreCivil communication please....
As I already answered, Google is not using pure RCS but their own closed source take on it.
That is why third party apps on Android does not work with Google's variant either.

The best thing for the consumers would be if all used a well-defined open standard only, that worked cross platform and cross carrier.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2022And how many third-party Android messaging apps support RCS... moreWhat are you even babbling about? Google didn't invent and does not own RCS, it's a concerted effort and and open standard. Specifications are freely available.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2022And how many third-party Android messaging apps support RCS... moreStrictly RCS is open AFAIK, BUT Google's TAKE on RCS is closed - and thus making it just as useless as imessaging. As it can only be used if you happen to know that the recipient are using a device and app that understand your app.

        So,.... back to sms/mms.

The whole point of a standard like RCS is to make cross-platform communication an option.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2022What is an iphone?Overpriced phone with very basic features (no 3.5mm, no memory expansion, no easy way to move files from Windows to iPhone, no way to sideload apps, no control over UI design, ancient charging speed, expensive repairs, not able to repair at a local shop coz of soft block) It is a phone for people below 24 IQ.

And how many third-party Android messaging apps support RCS? Only Samsung. Because Google refuses to open up the RCS protocol to the public.

Imagine if Google just kept using GTalk they had before Android (and was included in early Android)! We could all be enjoying open standard XMPP glory instead of fighting proprietary messenger wars!

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2022iMessage uses SMS when communicating with Android users bec... moreIt does within iMessage without any dumb fiddling and questions like Google's Messages app for some stupid reason. And so does Signal. Or Telegram, they just work. Why can't stupid Messages? It's why no one is using the RCS functionality. And reading how Google isn't allowing 3rd parties to use their implementation it just makes it even more stupid. If you're bragging open system, then do it. Apple at least isn't pretentious and lying about it, it's just closed system and that's that.

They are poking a stab in the wound on imessage because of the protocols that are at play. I personally don't care what Google or Apple do. The standards used today and even end to end encryption are the only key take aways. Apple is not a carrier so they can only control so much just like Google. Apple and Google can work with carriers as much or as little as the like to adopt/improve or even standardize. Niether Google nor Apple are behind in their times when it comes to encryption. All this is a PR or Marketing campaign. These things happen all the time.

AnonD-731363, 04 Dec 2022Man according to google data RCS came to live back in 2007. Technology maybe, but implementation of carrier is 2012. RCS is supposed to be like sms with no specific server to communicate between devices, isp connect with other isp to communicate device.

EskeRahn, 04 Dec 2022Also remember that Google use their own take on RCS. Ask... moreIssue with Messages is that thing is too complicated and no one uses it. I've enabled the chat thing and everything I sent ended up being regular SMS because no one uses this. It's so stupid. If Messages app just supported this by default if applicable, instead it's terribly executed and just isn't used by anyone. Meanwhile iMessages just works. But I guess Google is too busy barking at Apple about stupid bubble color instead of just doing it better so ALL Android users would have it enabled by default. I just don't get it.
