Anonymous, 08 Dec 2022And if you don't care about more major software update... moreI am more upset with the Smartphone market today then I have been ever before

From pricing too issues with new Android versions and software optimization too the shameless copies of copying apple notch/hole punch screens

I was close too getting a Samsung A13 though the 3 network carrier

But as soon as i find out I cannot even change the Smartphone as Samsung don't even include a changer
Not too mention the notch

I don't know
I really want a smartphone I could actually like the design of with a good screen I could live with

Sin, 08 Dec 2022I can't say I could keep a smartphone and have it last... moreYou can just buy a good midranger under 400 dollars. My Samsung A52 still works well with latest android 13. Mine has 8GB ram and 256GB storage. CPU isn't that powerful but fast enough and zero heating. Battery life is really really good too. Try to find A52s. It is better and faster. Very good model from Samsung. Though chinese phones give you better hardware but they never give you good software and long support.

I can't say I could keep a smartphone and have it last a long time long usable life anymore

like I used too be able too back in the good old days
When android was much lighter mainstream apps was lighter and browser needed less system resources and games where optimized for 2gb ram

In the past I used too just be able too save up and buy a Flagship smartphone

when it was possible too squeeze a full blown flagship in too a tight budget like 200 pound budget

Could be done by buying last year's new old stock models or looking around for sales etc

Was able too get about 6/7 years out of
my yotaphone 2 even today it's got some life in it

Even so the snapdragon 800 still almost got enough performance today it's main problem is overheating so it has too be under-clocked too keep temperature under control and battery life

But it being a 32bit smartphone is my main problems
Is not all apps and games support 64bit

only single sim card slot I need dual sim card slot

2gb ram made a problem know as a ram wall where the amount of ram is the bottle-neck

Was able too change the battery as is easy too repair

So given how long it had been
In a way it did well

but it has aged really badly
And struggles in even basic usage today even so back when I first got it was smooth and good at gaming

The same can't be said for the replacement smartphones everything goes downhill from here

At this point flagship are out of the question they cost 800 pound or more
        So budget smartphone it is

Tryed too buy Nokia 3.1 3gb ram/32 rom new old stock
But phone got lost had too get refund

Had many struggles and frustration in covid market ended up having too get Nokia 3.1 2gb rom / 16gb rom
        And difficulties with sellers

Had budget of 150 but ended up settle with £50 phone
At least good price for Nokia 3.1 base Modal new

This phone updated too android 10 and worked fine
And being some new features such as dual screen mode for better multi tasking and so am not just limited screen overlays

However it was not as it seems the smartphones was kinda smooth for about 3 mouth then become so sluggish in day to day usage

Games get updates and grown bigger need more storage and need more ram

So ram wall bottle-neck problems come back
Ànd storage limitations made me need too upgrade again

        Only lasted 6 mouths

Was told optimized software is more important than hardware
        Find android go smartphone

Nokia c01 plus has more free ram with 1gb ram then full android smartphone with 2gb ram

Nokia c01 plus 2gb ram Modal didn't want too buy £145 for so got the value for money version 1gb ram just 50 pound

Also this smartphone has good on paper benchmark scores for it's price range

dual sim card slot at least and removable batterys so it's easy too repair and battery is future proof

        However huge mistake

Games show up on google play store I checked
However it turns out minimum system requirements are a lie and ram wall bottle-neck again

So light gaming fine nope incompatible with unisoc processor because of some weird bugs

Even basic usage nope not this one even web browser can't stay open without me getting kicked out too home screen

Also the software is bad some apps lack features like screen other overlays and so on

This smartphone was so bad in nearly every way I switched back too using the my old Nokia 3.1 that is overdue for replacement because it can't fill my needs anymore

This is my experience with smartphones
Will be upgrading too new smartphone soon

I can't get a smartphone too l last long anymore

Any suggestions or advice are welcome

I keep 3rd party repairing my iphone 7 plus (2017) and I’m gonna use it for another 2 years. Using the same phone for 6-7 years is okay. Still works for me.

Haa haa , because of the stupid display size. From 6.0 - 6.8 inch display sizes are useless.
Better display size is 5.5 - 5.9 inch. Always we want latest qualcomm cpu.

A regular 256GB 12GB RAM Note 20 Ultra is 1000-1100 Euro with Exynos. A white one is 1220!
                    If you want SD865+ it's 1150 Euro.
Right now I can't find a 512GB version. But you can guess the price.
Maybe you can ship one to me 😄

zaryan, 07 Dec 2022the thing is old phones (launched especially after late 201... moreI'm using an iPhone 7 from late-2016 and it still works fine for daily use even if battery life isn't good on iOS15 and it's not as fast my SE3. I now prefer my 7 over my SE1 because it works better on iOS15. I think my SE1 has touch disease or maybe because apps aren't optimized well for such a small display with lower resolution.

I was thinking yesterday that I want to do 10-year upgrade cycles from the same phone series. Technically, 5 if I switch between Android and iOS every 5 years.

                      2023: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
                      2028: Apple iPhone XX
                      2033: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 15
                      2038: Apple iPhone XXX

Each generation of networks lasts about 20 years but I suspect 4G lasts as long as 2G which is still around in many countries after 30 years. I think 5G is overrated. A little faster than 4G with more dead spots. Most people aren't gamers or uploading 4K videos in the cloud and I find 5G as just another marketing ploy to buy more phones.

A lot of the stuff we see from YouTubers is to promote planned obsolescence and endless materialism. I just turned 42 and I'm at a point with my life that none of this stuff really matters. They're just things. When Marques Brownlee or Michael Fisher reaches 70, will they still be talking and reviewing smartphones? Will smartphones still be a thing by 2053 and 2063?

People keep their phones or they simply don't see any reason to upgrade as newer ones aren't much better. I think 3 years is the minimum to keep your current phone.

the thing is old phones (launched especially after late 2018) are still good enough for day to day tasks and currently new phones all look the same and have nothing more to offer than "we have 200mp 0.6um bs and look 15% better performance" which realistically doesn't make much of difference for regular person unless you are really nit picky and hobbiest who wants to live on edge which are really not much in audience
