We benchmark the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: solid CPU gains, impressive GPU upgrade

09 December 2022
This is a major improvement over the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Even the faster 8+ Gen 1 is left miles behind, especially in GPU performance.

And it's hardly a good or competitive chip, even Mediatek did better.

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2022yeah but when you playing genshin on iphone 14 pro its over... moreVery convenient to only mention iphones overheating.

All phones do with that game if you crank it to the max for no reason, I had a ROG 5 that did that and so does my S22 Ultra.

3 to 4 hours is btw pretty solid for iOS then, S22 Ultra (internat resolution at 1080p) is getting me 3,5 hour at most if on wifi.

My ROG 5 back then did 5 hours before the battery was empty, and that was considered super solid for that game.

Game developers lock out smartphones that are not White listed for higher graphics or higher refresh rate settings

A silly problem that shouldn't exist in first place with some developers games having features lock out unless you're smartphone is listed as meeting the system requirements

How power efficient is the 8 gen 2?

When Qualcomm return to custom core again you will see what Flagship soc look like.

IpsDisplay, 09 Dec 2022Thank you MEDIATEK for forcing Qualcomm to not hold back on... moreAccording to you mediatek that has less than 6% of marketshare of phones above $500 is pushing qualcomm (over 50%) to make better chips when the brand that sells majority of phones above $500 does not use mediatek.

😂🤣 ..... No surprise coming from the person that claims contract between Qualcomm/OEMs forces them to have snapdragon inside best phone.

Since last year you koved to claim D9000 was better than 8g1 based on antutu/geekbench before any of them were available, gonna say 8g2 is better based on benchmark now? 😅

Ready to update my SD 855+ (OP 7T) to Gen 2!
I skipped Gen 1 as it was inefficient, finally we get a truly good chip!

My 7T is still snappy and smooth as on day 1. Can't imagine how x3 raw performance will feel like.

This was a really good read

This looks really promising for Snapdragon 8 gen 2 as it is possiblity the going too be the first processor that can handle high refresh rate gaming 120fps hitting the screen Hz limit is healthy level of performance considering as smartphones age they come less able too game at higher FPS

I didn't think it was going too be possible too reach FPS good enough for higher Hz screen like 120hz

Am guessing 165hz will be much more of a struggle for processor too get higher FPS for screen like this

240hz will be nice also if it ever comes too a gaming smartphone too have such a good screen

but game developer's have got too work on making mobile game's less lighter and with more optimization for the hardware that exists and easily too run at higher FPS and with Better stability
