The article will be too lengthy and I'm certain that no one's going to read it from the team's opinion about each of their favorite device. If you really want to see what the best phone money can buy per tier, check out the buyer's guide which is updated all the time.

Anonymous, 26 Dec 2022SD card Headphone jack 5 year OS updates, 7 year security... more'De-googled OS' no one is gonna sell those after Huawei downfalls without Google. And small companies with those ideas are flopping, too, mind you.
5 years of updates would be an overkill when you can just load a custom ROM anyway. Most people on this forum should be able to do it as it's a tech forum anyway. And no, don't talk about warranty 'cause no phones have more than 3-4 years of that, lol.
Bloatwares are debatable, but for most parts that's how a lot of brands keep their phone cheap.
Removable 6000mAh cell? The phone will be a brick. Removable battery will also make it (a lot) harder to waterproof phones. Also, wireless charging is not gonna be great on those. Phones will be clunky as hell, and people like you are just gonna come and 'OMG this is so thick!', 'omg it's not compact', 'omg phones are becoming bricks', etc. A phone with a 4000mAh and good battery optimisation can already last for at least a day.
Should have? Basic? Absolutely not. We move on from those for a reason.
A phone with 5.5 inches 16:9 screen is even bigger than one with a 6.7 inches 19.5:9 panel.
Flat screen could be fine. But I saw people complaining about flat side make the phone feels hard to use and uncomfy to hold. Same for square corners.
Different externals would make them have to scrap up and redo everything, and yes, that would cost billions.
Punch-hole is the most optimised notch for a phone screen right now. People saying waterdrops or etc. are outdated, bezels make phones look bad (also according to people) while UDC's quality is far from the traditional camera.
Companies do also give you a choice. There are different models for a reason, for example, the 3 different sizes of the every S-series phones.
We settle for a reason, and we settle for good. They have been making phones for long enough that they know what BASICS most people want. Not what you want.
Compact phones don't sell well and that's a fact. And you want everything on a COMPACT PHONE? You make absolutely no sense.
After all, you just can't apply want you WANT on others' NEED. You are absolutely no one comparing to the majority of people who just want and need a normal phone. And also, keep in mind that companies also need profits. They make no more than 10% from every phone.
In conclusion, I can only say that your phone ideas sound like if you are making one in Ohio or something.

Low mid range is not for me, but infinix zero ultra can be considered top dog, I would pay a bit more to get vivo x60pro+ instead. Image processing just make too much of difference.

notafanboy, 25 Dec 2022What do you want then?SD card
                                Headphone jack
5 year OS updates, 7 year security updates (increases value to second hand buyer and allows seller to get more money)
                                Zero bloatware
De-googled OS, installing google services should be optional. When opening phone for the first time, you should have option "Install Google services or not"
                                Removable battery
                                6000 mah battery

All these are basics every phone should have from $200 to $1000

                                Now for CHOICES

Flat screen, flat side, square corners choice
                                Wide screen 16:9 choice
Top bezel or under-display camera choice
                                Compact phones

These are choices. It doesn't cost billions of dollars to build phones with same internals but different externals. Phonemakers don't give choice because they dont want consumers to dictate preferences. Instead we only get 19.5:9 6.7 inch 163mmx75mmx8mm with curved screen and punch-hole FOR EVERY SINGLE PHONE.

Apparently in 2012 we had the technology and money to provide CHOICES to people, but now after 10 years of advancement, creating compact phones or wide phones will bankrupt the companies. This is what smartphone makers want us to believe.

                                  notafanboy, 25 Dec 2022What do you want then?Yes I want galaxy z fold 4

notafanboy, 25 Dec 2022What do you want then?1+ TB storage or microSd card.
                                    3.5 mm headphone jack.
                                    Stereo speakers.
                                    16x9 display, 1920x1080 or better.
Good cellular support - VoWiFi, VoNR, SA 5G, bands for US T-Mobile, and good international roaming.
                                    Timely security patches.
                                    Unlockable bootloader.
Reasonably fast chipset - as good as a 2 year old flagship.
Low light cameras, 6+ Mpix main, 2+ Mpix selfie.
Protective rim around the glass edge.

Everything should be pretty standard except phone makers regressed. The headphone jack was removed, storage shrank, SA 5G dropped, and camera specifications became nonsense.

Google has been making Android suck so "major OS updates" is off the list.

I used the P 30 Pro b4 the S22 ultra and honestly Samsung stole a lot of its features from Huawei. The S22 ultra is a very bad 4ne the worst expensive rubbish I've used in my life. I wish HUAWEI can get the 5G issue resolved. I'm going back.
