GSMArena has their own list for best midrangers and it's just Ivan who prefers flagships over midrangers in general. It's his choice, plus, it's hard to favor midrangers over flagships as flagships are the best money can buy, while midrangers have to cut corners here and there.

    My fav is the one that outs quality hi res raws. From what I know only Vivo does, any X... vivo.
    Wish there is competition tho.

            My pick from the list would be the ZTE and the ASUS. While ZTE may not have an excellent software update policy, the Axon 40 Ultra is one of only four smartphones of 2022 that can shoot native 4K/120fps video across all three cameras (with the other three smartphones being the Sony Xperia 1 iv, Sony Xperia 5 iv, and OnePlus 10 Pro). As for the ASUS, it's compact flagship done right. I love how ASUS can get gimbal stabilization in such a small body.

Go and see his top 5 phones in the previous years, it's all about the best phones money can buy.

It's impossible to make a proper judgment about if one phone is better than another if you haven't used both, especially when comparing flagships which all have pretty good hardware. People mostly just vote for a phone from their favorite brand (and probably haven't even tried phones from most of the other brands). A poll like that just mainly shows which brand is more popular among gsmarena readers

                      People that use any iphone or redmi note would vote 14 pro max.
                      Geeks from India would vote OnePlus or Pixel (for still unknown reason).

                      12s Ultra, X80 Pro, 1 iv, X5 Pro, 30 Edge Ultra , 40 Ultra, Zen9, Rog 6 Pro combined would not have 5%.

                            After using the s22 ultra and A53 for example nobody would say they prefer the A53 instead, if price was not an issue
