Elon Musk said he came to free the birds. To stop censoring what people choose to tweet. To put an end to the existing content moderation. To bring free speech to the twitter space. And the right rejoiced. Woah! 😂 Only for him to end up doing same thing he was harping against, only that his is worse.

Again, what part of "free speech" do you not get?

In the last elections in India, fan pages of few political parties spent close to few million dollars on promotion of posts on facebook. Err.. ya, its just honestly earned money, earned & burned by a party fan, right? Its easy to guess whose money it was...

Either Trump IS lying, OR the democrats are lying saying Trump is lying....

My point is that (exactly as you write it) people do NOT want the flip side of absolute free speech, but want a reduced version, and the big question then is WHO or WHAT should set these limits?

Anonymous, 21 Dec 2022Yes, it is.Musk made it private. You can't buy Twitter shares anymore. It's very much the opposite of a public company.

vallab, 21 Dec 2022Who decide good and bad in free speech?Exactly!
Some things most of us can agree on as bad I guess, but certainly not all. And certainly by far everything we can agree on.

As an example: Some treat Trump as a (demi-)good, and other as a mad man.

The point is that in an absolutistic sense of "free speech" it does not matter if 99.9999% find a statement appalling.

As I said earlier, in most countries we have some diluted form of "freedom of speech". And indeed that rises the questions on why the limits on what we can accept is where they are?

And this becomes even more muddy on privately owned narcissistic -errm sorry- "social" media.

Can 'we' as a society accept that any mad man can make an echo chamber? I see no easy 100% Yes or 100% No there.

Earlier we could rise the same question on broadcasting, is it acceptable that what ever nonsense can be broadcasted? And if not who is to decide the limits?

[deleted post]You mean like how you are abusing your free speech rights by calling others incompetent and other insults in this comment section? Clearly you are not practicing what you preached.

I see this discussion about free speech here but most don't realize what the right to free speech entails. You have the right to free speech as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's rights. It has always been this way. Lying about another person can result in libel/slander. Saying hateful things is a form of harassment. Lying about other things is fraud. etc, etc.

Seriously, you are shooting yourself in the foot with all your convoluting comments. One moment you advocate for free speech and another moment you said need stricter legislation. In the end all you are just a hypocrite, because people agreeing with you are the correct ones while those not agreeing with you are the wrong ones.
