2022 Winners and losers: Apple

24 December 2022
The only real loss for Apple in 2022 was that it couldn't keep up with demand.

dbjungle, 26 Dec 2022That's unfortunate because the SE camera is hot garbage.Better than any Redmi 😂😂
Just because it lost in MKBHD camera test in low light because, shocker, it was the only one to not use a long exposure (which you could just download an app for free and then get the same results close to an iPhone 13) doesn’t mean it’s an overall bad camera. Comparing a 3 second or 5 second exposure to a 0.25 second exposure and then saying „yeah, the one with the longer exposure is brighter“ doesn’t make the camera that took the 0.25 second exposure photo bad.

Oh nevermind, by that time you will have already bought 2 other Redmeme phones.

kek, 26 Dec 2022The biggest lost was the iPhone mini getting cut just to ad... moreVery true.. discontinuing mini isn't best opinion of apple.. there are many other smartphones available in the market providing big screens.. whereas there are no makers for handy mobile (i.e., below 5.5'inch) except apple till last year.. agreed that the sales aren't good for mini version, but not everyone expect a tab size mobile in their pockets..

My primary phone has been the Pixel A series since 2019. I upgrade every year and don't even bat an eyelash. I spend around 2 - 3K on tech in an average year and could easily afford an iPhone, but iOS just doesn't do it for me. Too many weird limitations while running by far the fastest SoC in a mobile device most years. I actually love the base model iPhone hardware since the 12, but iOS would just keep it at home for me. They are adding 3rd party stores soon so maybe when I can get a full version of Chrome on it (not a Safari skin) I will be a little less disappointed with my iPad Mini 6. Honestly, the main things I need for iOS to become usable for me are: 1 - apps from external sources; 2 - a scalable UI, currently it wastes far too much space on high res screens; 3 - allowing other web browser engines (right now all web browsers on iOS are skins of Safari); 4 - customizable background tasks, let the user decide what they want to keep running in the background.

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2022iPad as a winner, don‘t know if that‘s right. The iPad Pro ... moreI currently own one iOS product and it's been a huge disappointment. The iPad Mini 6 came out in September 2021. Apple couldn't be bothered to bring Stage Manager to it even though it has an A15. That's despite the fact that Stage Manager is a sorry excuse for multitasking in the first place. I don't hate Apple, but IMO iOS is unnecessarily limited.

[deleted post]The iPhone SE is a terrible phone. Bad battery life, underwhelming screen, very basic camera and the chipset isn't even good there, it's just overkill for that thing. For what do you need processing power with a screen that tiny, making productive use painful, for what that strong graphics chip, when the screen is not even using a modern resolution?

Not only that, it doesn't even have headphone jack and microSD card support. It really makes me miss LG in the smartphone market even more than usual. Nevertheless, I'm still rocking my V60 like a champ. I really can't any better combination than a V60 with the Dual Screen case and a Wacom AES stylus. It really is a truly complete package.

You are paying top dollar/euro for a 2022 flagship with 60hz screen and a 2021 SoC.
Thats low even for Apple, and no wonder it is not selling at all.

And as for 2023, it is possible apple will stop selling it for the newer models.

Even with a quick look at online classified websites, I saw a listing for a 13 Pro Max 128GB with another nine-month warranty for about $680 at the time of this writing. At this point, I can't see any reason whatsoever to get the 14 Plus.

kabhijeet16, 25 Dec 2022iPhone 14 Plus is not a Loser. Its just a bit pricey. But ... morePersonally speaking, the iPhone 14 Plus is nothing different from the 2020 LG V60. Both have 60Hz and are around 6.7" to 6.8" screens, yet Apple charged $100 more than the V60's $799 RRP when new. Plus, the V60 have AES stylus support, an optional detachable Dual Screen case, a headphone jack with Quad DAC audio, 8K/30 HDR10 video recording, and Screen+ Desktop Mode. And with V60 stocks still aplenty around, you can get one with a Dual Screen case for about $400. It's a complete no-brainer for me. The one and the only reason I'd go for the iPhone is because of software support, but I can also get it with the much cheaper SE model.
