2022 Winners and losers: Oppo

31 December 2022
For a company with such rich innovation history 2022 was relatively slow.

atichko, 30 Jan 2023First of all, a Lenovo laptop is not a Lenovo smartphone. I... moreYes man i understands.
Most apps i use are not that smart so they could still work and some of my games i play as well. Just saying.
Smartphone not being too smart yes sounds interesting. But as long as it works it good not all people are geniuses which needs miracles from their phones.
Foor brownsing and basic apps will do its job.

Secondly, I don't say your smartphone will not work if it doesn't receive major and/or security upgrades. It's just that your phone will age quickly and support of certain apps might disappear while the phone could still run them. You also miss out on potentially nice and/or useful features that sometimes come with major upgrades. While android is not particularity renown for it's airtight security of the platform I prefer having the security updates as long as possible. It all comes down to longevity of the devices. Most of them do have the potential to technically last 4 to 6 years but most of the time it can't be used anymore as a smartphone because it's not "smart" enough anymore.
I do also have older smartphones lying around that technically still do everything but non of the apps I use run on it as support for that version of android ended. To have a smartphone in a drawer that is reduced to only do calling and texting is not my idea of the "smart" part in smartphone. For that I use good old button phones.

      It receiving udates pretty often.
I remember my Lenovo Vibeshot from 2015 it got only 1 OS update but still phone was perfectly working and still is good. Friend of mine have it now.
Updates are important but not everything know severalpeople with old samsungs like galaxy trend or young a person with Sony Z1 those phones still working even their update list is long time gone.

Beck then their portfolio was not as large as today en software support was acceptable in terms of speed of release, at least for the more expensive ones. My Moto G was always more than a year late for the one and only major upgrade I got and security updates where only quarterly. Today, my G41 for example, is still stuck on Andoid 11 while version 13 is already live for a few months. Still no sign of when the magic will happen... Aside from that I'm still pretty fond of the brand but I wish they would diminish their portfolio and focus on better support. That will of course not happen as it became a Chinese owned brand (Lenovo) and they just love to flood the market with loads of new devices every few months.

atichko, 05 Jan 2023True. Stock android is still among the lightest OS'es ... moreMan agree.
To be honest had my Moto X4 for almost 4 years bought on a rleease date and got 2 OS updates and lot of security patches.
My first OS update came very early to be honest. A time when same OS was in several other phones and brands. For another OS update i had to wait like 18 months.
Even after 5 years the phone is still perfectly working and in top condition apart the battery because i am heavy gamer.
But Motorola is great brand phone works fine with anything and still in top condition because i always use 5D 9H glass screen protector along with thick leather book case for maximum protection.
          Was like my best phone.
Now waiting if Moto X40 came to my country to Slovakia and what will be a global price.

AnonD-731363, 03 Jan 2023Um well maybe. Since most apps any UI brings are already ... moreTrue. Stock android is still among the lightest OS'es out there but indeed together with IOS the most boring one. People do like to change the look and feel of their devices and stock android (just as IOS) don't offer many possibilities to do that, even with the "styles" that came with android 12. Among those who offer stock (or near stock) android launchers I prefer Motorola as they do offer stock android with only the Motorola app on top of it. Their version of Styles is better than what the Pixel phones offer. The downside of that brand is that the software support is just rubbish (my G41 is still running android 11 and the security patches are only once every 3 months at best). Agreed, Xiaomi is no better when it comes to that but they hide it with the fact that they do release more updates related the MIUI.

To be honest all the phones are the same. No headphone jack, no micro SD card... Reno2 was the best phone. If they could make that again with 30g less weight and dual micro SD cards Auto focus selfie with 1/2 sensor and only 12mp winner winner chicken dinner. Plus stero speakers....

Since most apps any UI brings are already there from google and those are mandatory cant be deleted only disabled and cost a lot of disk space ask for frequent updates and are a very RAM hungry to me stock android was always the best possible option to be honest.

AnonD-731363, 01 Jan 2023Well everything goes as it was expected only thing i am wor... moreNow, that's true to a certain extend. There was always a similarity between ColorOS and OxygenOS. I have played with both and, a part of some specific and exclusive extras, I found it to be almost the same with pro's and con's for each of the platform and even the same remarks that applied on both. Sadly enough many Chinese OS'es share lot's of similarities lately. initially they all started to create launchers that resembled as much as possible IOS from a look and feel point of view and that is still true to a certain extend today.
Anyway, now that these OS'es are becoming more "lightweight", smoother and more and more resembling stock Android (except for the fancy stuff) I can have any Chinese OS (MIUI, EMUI, ColorOS, OxygenOS...)

Pixel AOD is can't compare to ColorOS or OneUI AOD, it's too bland and not so customizable. ColorOS AOD is pretty standout with its Portrait Silhouette AOD it gives me so much personality. ColorOS is far from the worst AndroidOS, it may be one of the best just right below the OneUI.

Well everything goes as it was expected only thing i am worrying of is the partnership of Oppo and Oneplus.
Putting a Color OS on a pure android experience could end like if we add Samsung UI to IOS platform.

Euro, 31 Dec 2022Color Os a WINNER? I think color Os is one of the worst Os.... moreI don't care about that, I care about features, functionality, and size. To me it looks and feels good enough and avoids the dumb Google internet toggle introduced in A12

Crossing my fingers that the global Reno9 will have support for bands 13 & 66. As someone who is on Verizon, it really sucks having a lot of good deals from international brands just out of reach.

ae86, 01 Jan 2023ColorOS winner??? what?Yeah it's a very good OS on android, incredibly polished and optimised. Vs the pixelOS it's a no contest imo (used both, I'm now on colourOS and I'm looking to stay on it for a while with Oppo phones). Only OS that was more polished was emui before the whole ban saga tbh (maybe oxygenOS probably was before but seems to be getting neglected atm).

Plus a lot of interesting partnerships and hardware development now happening which can be implemented in to the OS and devices could make an interesting couple of years. The flagship devices have been some of the highest quality for years now including the X5 series (fantastic phones just not good sales and marketing), my mates x2 Pro has been outstanding for him and camera quality is still top notch, 2022 flagship quality.

ColorOS is garbage. It has the worst implementation of the AOD. The notification icons are too small and most of the time you can’t even tell which app is which. They should be monochrome like on Pixel or larger and solid colours like on Samsung. Haven’t a tiny shrunken down app icon doesn’t help.
