AnonD-731363, 29 Dec 2022Man yes and who needs that??? Oled yb chinese or by Samsun... moreComponents do not have same quality.
Otherwise, no one would purchase from suppliers that charge more.

Dont you think would be way more convenient for example if iphone had omnivision camera that is way cheaper than sony what would allow apple to have much higher profits than already has? And screen from Tiamna? Chinese storage/ram?

Guess why ROG 5 and 6 series do not use tiamna screen like the other 3 generations.
Guess why no expensive phone since mi 10 ultra has omnivision as main camera.

What a coincidence xiaomi 12s Ultra had samsung screen while 12/12 pro had TCL.
Vivo x90/90 pro use Boe, while Pro+ has samsung oled.

How many years has BOE been rejected by Apple for not meeting stardards required? At least 3. Even LG has supplied part of oled to Apple since 12 series.

Middle class winners of 2022 among all manufacturers: vanilla Edge 30 and OnePlus Nord 2T.

Oled yb chinese or by Samsung aint much difference unless you are a hype fan who needs to have litterary same thing but more expensive. Same goes for camera.
On a 6 inch screen phone any photo looks litterary same regardless of the phone and brand when we speak about phones with price tag of 400+.
      Rest is the same.
Samsung this, Sony that all comes from china brand name means nothing now.ňOnly exception to this was it is and always will be VERTU which is a only handmade brand ever existed.
Rest is china made for a china quality. Only Sony is different cmes from Japan and made by Japan. But other brands dont use sony components oly camera.

AnonD-731363, 29 Dec 2022Well since Motorola is a pure android experience its always... moreLet me tell you how.

Moto G series has many cuts. For example NFC is not for all markets. Screen is chinese (even on edge series), most of non-primary cameras are omnivision. Edge 30 Fusion does not even have isocell , but omnivision/sk hynix and galaxy core.
Those edge lite, fusion, neo can be as expensive as galaxy A53 for some markets.

Motorola phones are more chinese than ever , this is why X40 has retail price in China below $500. Impossible to sell phone this price unless it costs way below $300 to make.

Do not expect to see oled from samsung, main camera from sony, storage/ram from samsung/toshiba for example.

They have put out lots of phones lately with no FM radio and also some with no SD-card slot

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2022Exactly. And Snapdragon - which is more future-proof than M... moreWhat future proof? Software updates? Moto is not providing them for the G series anyway. And Mediatek has pretty good SoCs for ALL price segments, so not sure what is wrong with Mediatek SoCs? If you talk about custom ROM support for Qualcomm SoCs, then only a very small fraction (less than one percent) of Android users care about it. Having a Qualcomm SoC in a phone is not as important as it used to be in early days.

How is the Razr 2022 a winner when it isn't available outside China? Motorola is also known to have the worst software support. The Razr 2022 looks worse than the 2019 and 2020 models. Too wide. I'd rather have the Find N2 Flip over it.

Very happy with my edge 30 neo. Yes it lags sometimes as it's not the fastest but it's light, flat screen and charges super quick and holds pretty well. Had no idea I'm on android 12 until this article. Had 13 on Xiaomi. Same stuff so I'm ok

The 3rd year security is almost certain going to be in 6-month intervals.

Raffel, 29 Dec 2022Moto G series are definitely winners not losers. They do of... moreNot only you, but few others as well missed to read the few important lines that the author of this article mentioned why G series was a loser.

From the article - "The camera experience often comes with major compromises too. Oftentimes the choice of SoCs means no 4K recording. And last but not least, some features found on Motorola Edge smartphones with similar hardware are missing. Market segmentation is cool and all, but only make sense if you still end with a competitive product."

My own personal experience - I have been an exclusive Moto G series phone user from 2013 until 2021 (G2, G3, G5 plus and G8). And that changed this year, with me moving to Realme 9 SE due to the exact same reasons that the author quoted in this article. So I completely agree with the author that G series was a loser for this year. And Moto lost a loyal fan due to their own mistakes.

The biggest issue with Motorola are software updates, but I would say that's more a Lenovo issue than a Motorola one.
Lenovo sucks when it comes to proper software support, even on computers.

Moto G series are definitely winners not losers. They do offer oled in their phones G42 G52 and G82. The only ones that doesn't offer this are G32 which most phones at its price doesn't and G62. For the market segmentation evey brand does the same thing. And 4k recording it's qualcomm to blame.
I would add another losers is the market availability.

I have the Moto Razr 5G (G2) flip phone, it recently updated itself to Android 12, and the next day I began having multiple fatal Camera errors, Motorola Tech Support advised rebooting and finally said to use a software tool called Rescue and Smart Assistant (RAS) to backup my data and return the phone to factory default, the Camera problem was not solved. I did some troubleshooting and quickly traced it to the new "Face Unlock" feature. Disabling Face Unlock made the Camera work, no more fatal errors. I reported this back to Motorola, and got a zero "blank stare" response. My 6 year old kid could have done better pre-release beta testing Android 12. Shame on Motorola/Lenovo. Took flagship products and industry leading reputation and ran it into the ground.

For me Neo is a winner too. I wanted something compact and stock Android and that left me with just Xperia 10.4, Pixel 6a and Neo. Neo included a charger, case and has 120 refresh rate so i went with that one.

Samsung and Motorola (like most of Chinese OEMs) are having totally different bussiness model. Samsung is investing big in their Research & Development and on the marketing department while Motorola not so much, if any in marketing department. Samsung is selling their hardware to others too which means more investing. Motorola just have small percantage royalties from other brands because of many patents the original Motorola made before Lenovo take over Motorola. That's a huge difference and we shouldn't forget that all Chinese brands don't have logistic problems like their "western" counterparts because it's all been designed and made in one country. All that combined is why Samsung (and other "western" OEMs) is having about 50% of profit margine while Motorola has about 13% which we can clearly see in the price difference. Every phone from China is going to be cheaper then "westerns" if you look only hardware/price value. And that's not a rule just for phones. Generally speaking China's advantage with almost all products from around the globe being manufactured there and the fact that they focus more on online buying then physical stores means they have way less employes, offices and staff. All that combined is the reason why Chinese phones will almost always look better value vise. But...
There is still hope for "westerns" as

                                        a)
phone is not just a hardware, it should be a well optimized and balanced system overall, meaning software is equally important if not a little bit more important then hardware it self because it can utillize the maximum potential of the hardware and OEMs from China are kinda weak on that point. Not all of them but vast majority it is.

                                        b)
heavy investing in marketing and strong brand recognition are things that are hard to beat. We have ads in everything now because that's the most powerfull tool if you want to sell.

As long we have a choice I'm happy, so everyone can pick something for them self.

                                        Peace out!
