Ice Universe: Oppo is working on its own smartphone chipset

We heard a similar rumor a year ago, back then it was claimed that Oppo is targeting TSMC's 3nm node (which ended up being delayed slightly).

        Qualcomm often chooses samsung semicon instead of tsmc because of cheaper service. Going back to tsmc for 8g2 was not because SoC heat, it was high % of silicon wasted at samsung compared to tsmc. Amount of usable chips compared to totall made.

        Go see how much something like A16 costs.

I'm suspecting this will just be made by someone else for Oppo with minor tweaks here and there and then baked in as "their own chipset". So, like Google's Tensor mostly... So as long as these phones will open whatsapp, have good battery life and Camera people will buy them. They will be fine.

                          I already predict how Oppo fans will complain about those MariSilicon chipsets: "OMG why Oppo released a flagship with trashy, energy inefficient MariSilicon chipset in my country when in China they use Qualcomm/MediaTek" Just like Samsung flagships Snapdragon vs Exynos debate.

                                    They are trailing the way of Huawei. It's a shame, they used to have really nice stuff with great 3rd-party support thanks to Qualcomm. Looking at their most recent developments and how even the OnePlus 10 Pro does not have official LineageOS, it is only logical they would go down further the same "locked-in" rabbit hole.

                                        You need roughly 100 men team but you're not gonna be able to fill that quota because not enough people in the market fit for that.
