I too hate tall displays. They may be good for scrolling through webpages but not for video consumption.
The problem is that people/consumers give attention to the diagonal and not the screen area, hence why companies market skinny tall phones as "large screened".
I have no reason to upgrade my phone as of now at all.
My suggestion for you is to keep using your phone until it becomes a total brick👍

Minu, 08 Jan 2023People who use 16:9 phones have great taste 😎There's nothing to choose from. I thought about using a small 16:10 tablet as a phone but the smallest ones are 8in and that's maybe pocketable if it's 20:9 but 16:10 makes the same diagonal huge. Isn't measuring screens with different AR by their diagonals a bit stupid?

The Honor Note 8 has a 6.6 inch 16:9 screen? Must be as big as a tablet lol. Reminds me of the Xperia Z Ultra that i wanted to buy back in the day but decided against because it didn't fit into any of my pockets

I wonder why 18:9 that was popular a while back didn't get any traction? I could see myself go to 18:9 if that's all there was. 20:9 and 19.5:9 though. That's a big jump from 16:9 (for me).

I'm currently on an Honor Note 8. It's got a Samsung oled display 2560x1440. Zero burn in after all these years and still displays sharp and vivid content. Only issue is the yellow tint that has developed. I tried to color correct it but my correction is at the maximum setting already and it's still a tiny bit too yellow.

alcatraz, 04 Jan 2023Thanks for the tip. 19.5 and 20 are almost the same though.I went from a 20:9 A51 to the S22+ and the difference is pretty big atleast to me
I can't even go back to 20:9 anymore. Everything feels cramped in on the screen
I'm surprised that it hasn't become a trend yet
Besides Apple and Samsung, everyone else is still using 20:9 and then there's Sony with their stupid 21:9 ratio

I know I'm odd. I just don't understand why all phones optimize for 3% of youtube.

No worries. I'm patient. I'll get something eventually. The longer I wait, the greater a leap in performance an upgrade will be. That's sweet. Right now with the SD8g2 performance I'm thinking why not use your phone as a workstation connected to a screen/kb+mouse?
