Basically, the processing engines weren’t able to adequately compensate for potentially missing data that the sensor couldn’t see due to PDAF sensors taking up space on the image sensor around and in between the actual pixels.

One could argue that “Well, Panasonic should’ve gotten their act together and developed better image processing engines sooner. The competition all managed it just fine!” but we also don’t know exactly what level of standards Panasonic was hoping to achieve vs what the competition was aiming for.

Then let them make better phones; not a cocktail of cams.

I would rather buy a phone+cam than whatever these could be called now.

The last good phone cam is the CM1; it was still a smartphone.

Nick Tegrataker, 05 Jan 2023"better colors" Are you kidding me sir.. &quo... moreWell said. Those people just look at the photos on a phone screen without ever zooming in! If you do that, almost anything can look good. You can't see noise and artifacts if don't zoom in or see in sufficiently large screen.
S21u is handily beaten by 1" sensor phones such Mi12s ultra. Even Mi12s ultra is no match for proper cameras. These are no match for full size sensor. Moreover, these are worsened by multi-bayer layout.

They need to use common sense, if these phone cameras are really better than full size cameras then why don't professional photographers just use the former?

                                  "even better resolution (8K)"
Do you know how bloody garbage an 8K video footage looks from Samsung's S Ultra series phones? It only uses 1/3rd of the entire sensor area, and per-pixel detail is terrible due to a minuscule pixel size and the need to perform remosaicing on groups of 9 pixels that share the same colour filters. Recent Xiaomi phones can record much better quality 8K videos, and even then, I wouldn't bother comparing it to 6K footage from this camera.

The point of using a mirrorless to capture photos is that you can swap out lenses according to your need, and RAW files you're getting out of it are significantly more flexible compared to those from smartphones (unless you're stacking frames, such as when using Gcam). S21 Ultra can't even handle subtle motion very well in less-than-ideal lighting conditions, that's definitely not the smartphone camera I would like to use lol.

A good telephone like S21 Ultra makes better videos and pictures then any mirrorless camera in daylight, with much better HDR, better colors, and even better resolution (8K)! The S21 Ultra can beat the mirrorless cameras even in low light photos, but can't match them at night photos and videos, which is the only reason to buy a mirrorless camera nowadays - for low light video. Samsung can easily add an additional camera with huge pixels, at least 8 µm, and 2MP resolution for great 1080p night video, which will be good enough and it will match even the Sony a7S with the same size pixels!
