NOBODY is saying that the 3.5mm jack is useless. But SE has a smarter solution by still using the same port for charging and handsfree, and yet you can still use your own earphone (Who knows what the heck is for, since SE earphone is MUCH better than the other phones' standard retail earphone)
The absence of 3.5mm jack MEANS NOTHING compare to the SOUND that SE Walkman Phones produce! It is a MUSIC phone.
Again, if you never have SE, try it first then you can talk!

Obviously those who bash SE for this matter NEVER get a hold of one. GET ONE ALREADY!! You can use your OWN earphone!!
Please try it yourself before bashing!!
Besides, you're missing the point: what matters is the SOUND that SE Walkman Phones can produce.
This is a MUSIC phone!!
And SE has the BEST SOUND out there in the market.

iPhone headset quality is horrible, same as iPod.(With horrible 3D effects)
You should buy a new headphone.
Also, Apple reduced the sound quality of iPhone, compared to iPod.(I don't know why)

So many fans have thousands of problems about SE. Without 3.5mm jack and with old headphones SE doing great job. No doubt SE sounds really well, that’s why they sold highest walkman handsets among the other vendors. SE’s Stereo speakers are massive.

judge a camera phone cause of the ... morewhat the hell this 3.5mm jack is? my dear the award was given on the basis of W980's sound quality, not on the headphones' jack. and sense me and shake controls, these features were only a plus point.also the W980 is matching the Apples iPod in terms of sound quality, you can watch GSMArena's review on the sound quality of W980.
i'll also admit that SE's headphones are the best in mobile market.

First time since 2005 that Nokia didn't get one but it still has an "award": Market Leader. That's hard to beat at 40%; the next one's behind by more than 10 percentage points.
Also, Nokia phones being jack-of-all-trades wouldn't necessarily be a disadvantage.
