Report: 50% of all iPhones could be made in India by 2027

Previous estimates suggested a quarter of all iPhones would be made in India by 2025.

Yes, cost cutting is one reason. Chinese manufacturing cost has been in the rise, and the lockdowns were not helping. Another is to avoid the import duties (which won't be passed on to customers, it's to pad more profit for Apple).

                              This is mostly due to cheap labor. Even Xiaomi is doing it to the point that their phones manufactured in India has issues specific only to Indian models.

For example, just recently, the supplier for iPhone camera sensors, Sunny Opotech announced that they will set up a camera manufacturing facility in India with an investment of $300 million. And Samsung does make OLED displays at their Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh, India. Soon, more suppliers will follow. It is just a matter of time.
