22 January 2023
This chip wasn't the best - but it was good enough and it wore that as a badge of honor.

What makes me hate it even more is that companies like Xiaomi who used to make INSANE value phones replaced the SD 778G with this steaming pile of garbage and made me resort to Samsung (the Exynos 1280 is about equal, but has mmWave and much better GPU and 4K video recording) and also the overall specs are better for my use. Samsung is also guilty of the same cutting of the 778g. Even the 690G is better overall. Miss the times before companies started slacking. Phones were so cool in 2021 and earlier.

Anonymous, 24 Jan 2023Go for 778g my friend. It only cost a bit more but much bet... moreMine was $300 and I also got 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, 3.5mm jack, and MicroSD expansion with a free 256GB MicroSD card included, and I live in the US. A 778G phone would probably cost at least $400 and come without half the mentioned features. Same reason why I didn't go with the Pixel 6a for $300 (which also has a terrible modem which is a no-go for me)

only concerning is the battery life. theyre usually short if used conditions.

you have to suffer, 24 Jan 2023since the craze of cloud storage, wireless cheapbuds... it... moreExactly. They want you to buy their cloud storage and wireless earbuds, so they remove the microSD card support and the headphone jack. They are basically making solutions to a problem that doesn't exist in the first place. That is why I applaud Sony for bringing the headphone jack back on their flagship phones in 2020 after removing it for two years on their 2018 and 2019 flagships.

it changed the entire mobile market. android manufacturers' CEO probably used iphone so they could have think that decision of removing basic things.

It's crazy how difficult it has become to find a phone with clean bloatfree ad-free software, a headphone jack, an SD expansion slot, a capable processor with decent cameras and dependable battery life... While in the era of the Snapdragon 625 such phones were almost everywhere.

695 is barely any better than 765g, which says a lot about "progress" made in last few years. The midrange segment has seen almost no improvement in power and efficiency since 2020, except for the 778g. One main reason is existence of 695. Devices that could get 778g have been given 695 due to penny pinching. Some OEMs even downgraded the chip and cameras successive devices. They've gotten too greedy and need some beatings and boycotts by consumers to put them back to where they belong.

YUKI93, 23 Jan 2023Why give such crazy power when most people only going to do... moreThen we can also ask why bother giving them "such crazy" power for those tasks, 400/4 is more than enough for what you mentioned.
I think people who buy midrange rather than entry level expect something that's decent, makes a difference and last without having to spend on flagship. Anything lower than 778g are unfit for those expectations given the price. Look at Xperia 10 IV for example, it's not cheap yet is underpowered due to 695g. It's buyer will feel regret when looking at cheaper A52s that uses 778g. If the 600 series never existed, that phone, alongside likes of Nord CE series and others would be forced to use 778g. and we as consumers see a realistic benefit. This is doable by OEMs but they're too greedy.
695 is the worse of the bunch. These greedy OEMs have gotten an excuse to avoid using 778g.

Lenovo P2 was the best-performing Snapdragon 625 smartphone regarding battery endurance rating. 149 hours for it is absolutely impressive.
