No wonder you who packed wi... moreNone of Samsung's current flagships can display 10 bit content without showing color banding, it is an unfortunate truth that I also couldn't believe when I knew it for the first time. It is unclear if they are still using an 8 bit panel, or a proper 10 bit panel but disabling dithering at a software level, but either way if your eyes are good enough to spot the tonal artifacts you will not be enjoying watching HDR videos on S22. Hopefully S23 will improve upon its predecessor in this regard, since other phone manufacturers have been doing it right for a couple of years now.

Keep being a Samsung shill and let the company go unscathed with its bad decisions then see what happens in the future when they give bad products with even higher prices.

Idi-oooot!!! The regular hdr10 supports 10 bit of CD. Where hdr10+ can support up to 16-bit of CD. And fooool obviously all these technologies are software implementation of data scaling. Meaning these have to deal with encoding mostly. All Dolby Vision profiles from 4-9 have HEVC and AVC codecs.

Other than embarrassing yourself further with bs essays do some study next time.

No wonder you who packed with half-knowledge always. 8-bit+ frc is called 10-bit if not true 10-bit. Both color space and bit depth are interrelated. If one is not the other can't be a thing as well. And for the hdr10+ display, it's more than just a wide color gamut with higher bit depth. And for banding color compression is a long solution thing.

How Exynos should be a topic in the s23 article Mr. Genius.

Edging out isn't beating? Clap for you. And you're just being a fool now. You should have known that the ram management works diff for both Android and iOS as android has way superior multi-task functionality than even toys like iPads.

ALU to Cache, 23 Jan 2023imagine paying 1200 dollars for a phone that's all pur... moreThe best android experience? Pre Android 13 their software was pretty trash, considering it's a flagship. When compared to a budget-ish phone it felt like upgrading to a midranger. The key problems felt the same, High refresh rate yet the UI had many frame drops or even low framerates. I even have some apps constantly crashing on me and some do not run as well. I'm happy with the fact that they have constant updates but what's the point of updates if the core experience is pretty wack and only gets improved by 1% or something? I only experienced a very slight increase in smoothness after updating to Android 13. I had the 0.5x animation speed hack on as well. Problem was that the animations weren't supposed to be that fast so the phone glitches out a lot. So either I get super slow animations or fast and buggy animations. It's like choosing the lesser of the two evils and I chose the latter.
Do you know what Dolby Vision is? It's not an encoder, it's a type of HDR metadata. It is dynamic HDR metadeta just like HDR10+. However Dolby Vision supports upto 12 bit whereas HDR10+ supports upto 10 bit. So your point of a higher bit playback is invalid. An 8bit display cannot be better than a 12 bit display. The device can be, but not the display. The device can use dithering or some sort of debanding/decontouring processing in order to "fix" the image however this can lead to loss of detail if done aggressively. My point is Samsung's display is 8 bit for a 1200 dollar flagship. there is visible banding in the UI though thankfully I haven't seen much banding in content much (mostly due to MPV's amazing debanding). Saying cameras are mid is not ignorance but a fact. Xiaomi, Vivo, Google and Apple take better photos and Xiaomi and Apple take better videos. If Apple's a 10, Xiaomi's an 8 and Samsung's 6 at best. Samsung's hardware is fine, their software is definitely not. I tried using gcam and was blown away. Samsung's photos are heavily compressed leading to a lot of artifacts and due to the compression, whatever noise is there looks extremely ugly. The denoising, smoothing, sharpening, etc. are way too aggressive and make the image look like it came out from a midranger. The camera assistant's "reduce sharpening" option is great and I love that natural look. The videos from this are also extremely noisy at times and frankly, unusable, mostly in low light. In day time the videos are overprocessed, way too much denoising and sharpening going on, making the footage look a bit artificial. I have no problem with boosted saturation/contrast but overprocessing on other fronts is just too much.
Notice how I said "inaccurate" and not "Small Color gamut". There's a difference between being accurate and covering a gamut. Look at notebookcheck's tests. They're pretty damn inaccurate in the DCI-P3 mode which is the "Vivid" mode. The constant switching between the SRGB clamped Natural and Vivid is frustrating and the juiced up colours of the Vivid mode is annoying after using the Natural mode. You never "heard" whereas I experienced.
Their battery is not better than Apple's or even Oneplus's. Even Google's caught up. Where's the "Ultra" aspect? What you said about the speakers is exactly what I meant, they aren't the best and thus are "balanced". My gripe with the is that going above 120 volume introduces some distortion that's slightly noticeable but going above 130 introduces heavy distortion that's annoying when listening to dialogue for example. The phone's speakers are pretty damn nice till 120 volume, low distortion and as a result low compression when listening to loud music mastered to let's say -5 lufs or something. However, at that volume it's just acceptable in terms of loudness, when going full blast it's pretty compressed. I've heard good things about the S21 Ultra's speakers and went with this and got disappointed pretty hard. Most likely adding the S pen took up space for the speaker as well and they had to nerf it.
Notice how I didn't say anything bad about the design? That's because I absolutely love it, it is a joy to hold. Would've been a bit cooler if it were a bit taller instead of wider but that's the only problem in terms of design.
Maybe I had too much expectations when getting this phone, gonna stick with midrangers in the future. Oneplus is out of the equation now and Google is pretty wonky. Apple's phones are the best in most ways but I love android and its freedom way too much.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2023Not supporting Dolby Vision is deliberate. And what do you ... moreExactly, deliberately reducing features on a 1200 dollar phone? That is absolutely outrageous. By "even Xiaomi" I mean exactly that. You'd expect Sony, Huawei, Samsung or Apple to be using the best in class tech but Apple and Xiaomi are the ones using it. That's something. Even their base Mi 13 has it. That's great imo, just didn't expect them to supply it.
They're one of the best? Yeah, but not because they're great but because others have become worse, for example Oneplus and Samsung. They were far better and when they became worse Xiaomi and others still kept improving and just caught them lacking, basically. I hold Vivo above Xiaomi, I just like their flagships a bit more.

Samsung may have better photos at 10x but google's photos till ~5-9x are great. Then comes the videos where it's handily beaten by iphones. If the iPhones are a 10 this is a 6, talking about low light and HDR scenes. And I'm comparing it with the snapdragon variant which imo is better in terms of camera overall

Not bad although you still can see artifacts in the image. Look at the stars, it's just the way the algorithm is handling it.
