Motorola Moto G73 and G53 unveiled with 5G, 120Hz displays and 50MP cameras

24 January 2023
The G72 and G52 were both 4G-only phones. The new models use Helio and Snapdragon chips for next-gen connectivity.

They're all overpriced, underpowered, poor cameras and no 4k video recording. I wouldn't have any of them even if they were free. I hope they lose Lenovo a lot of money

The release of the g73 might move the price of the g72 down so that it will become the best overall budget bang buck alternative if you want clean Android

James.D, 27 Jan 2023(I'm not either of the other dudes) Motorola is owned ... moreYep I know. I got that wrong initially, understand now. I'd comment rather owners are to blame. Phone is tough business, anyways.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2023Lol are u OK what brand ? Should be deleted.(I'm not either of the other dudes) Motorola is owned by Lenovo (a Chinese company), so that's what he's talking about

Obviously you are not one of them.
Btw is your car factory new with full Casco or it is from a previous owner?

108mp camera is a 9pixel binning, so equivalent pixel size Is almost the same. 0.64x3=1.92um

Mmeco, 25 Jan 2023Is Motorola moving forward or backwards?😏"Hey Jim, look, over here! Remember those old 720p Displays we were missing two years ago? Here they are! They were here all the time! Somebody put 'em right behind this big pile of RAZR phones nobody bought 'cause they were to pricey... What do you think, Jim? ... Yeah, you're right. Can't waste any tech these days. Let's release some midrangers and use 'em for it, maybe nobody'll notice."

G73, 25 Jan 2023I'm super happy these new phones still have 3.5mm jack... moreI think HR is needed. Just LCD is too slow for 120 which causes ghosts 👻👻👻 On the other hand, some 120Hz look like 90 on other brand's phone so let's say this is OK. They have adaptive RR.

Which Gorilla glass do they use? Not too visible in their pecs. Screen could use some protection, too.

I'm super happy these new phones still have 3.5mm jack, more phone manufacturers have to bring it back!!!
Rest of the specs looks also quite good for G73 although a bit of let down for no 4k video, but if 1080p is sharp and it also have 60fps and the new sensor with large pixels is an improvement then this is great too.
And LCD is OK as long as it's not some very poor quality, it also looks smoother when scrolling and may not need 120Hz activated which saves even more on the battery.
Just one thing, I would so much hope Moto could make their phones with higher IP rating like the Samsung A53 which is IP67 dust/water resistant (up to 1m for 30 mins).

What the hell is this. Who in their right mind would have preferred to get 5G while giving up 1080p resolution, 90hz or 120hz refresh and OLED SCREEN? Ridiculous decision from Motorola, and sad to see.

New phones will be less value, then. You don't need to comment any new phone, cause happilly buy used one anyway. I mean, it's different. It's not convenient for all people and cases tho.

G73 LCD not necessarily worse, depends on user tho. Imho 120Hz bit gimmicky on LCD but not important. A trade for 5G, more importantly better camera -?- let's hope so! -is OK. Then for price reduced above €300 even for worse memory config not bad, for a less video demanding person.

Anonymous, 24 Jan 2023Not everyone want used phones. Better buying brand new ... moreWhy? I've picked up a refurbished mate 10 pro couple years ago, not a single scratch on it and never failed me. P40 pro and find X5 that were literally in perfect condition, no hardware defects, no scratches and I'm still using the X5, traded it for a pixel 6 pro and I love the phone, never let me down yet.

A well looked after used/refurbished devices value is double or triple that of any current mid ranger. For the price of a g73, say around £270 , it'll be more but let's do a straight conversion, you could get a Xiaomi 11 and a couple 11t pros, S20/s20fe, Oneplus 8 Pro with 12gb ram and 256gb rom, Sony Xperia 1 II, Huawei P40 pro if you don't want no Google services and one of the best camera phones still out and even a couple pixel 6s popping around, Samsung galaxy a23 costs more than these devices.)

I know what I'd go for in a heartbeat.
