Anonymous, 26 Jan 2023huawei ... even before smartphone ... huawei always copy pa... moreHuawei in the telecommunications industry has a reputation of the cheapest and most durable hardware out there. Their after sales support is phenomenal and best of the best. That's why many telecom companies still choose Huawei despite the ban.
Apart from that, Huawei's PV and railway signalling business is also gaining traction. They are everywhere, just that nobody knows their existence.

Not surprising. Inflation is through the roof. Fuel prices are increasing and general consumer goods are too. These phone manufacturers are knocking out the same phone really year after year and charging stupid prices for literally no innovation and there's better value in the market. They are not living in the real world. I hope this trend continues and eventually some sense is knocked into them.

mawlki, 26 Jan 2023Would be great oh and add physical keyboard.This.... So much this!!!
I even go as far and claim that I want a HTC Touch Pro 2 like, Nokia N95(0) or N97 like, or MS Surface Duo 2 like foldable device with two 7,2"(+) inch big screens (front and back) on one side, and one physical keyboard and battery and rear cameras on the other side, with current high-end to top-of-the-line Hardware, and I happily shell out $2000(+) to that phone manufacturer who can make such thing happen.

Good. All the popular brands have already played their cards and have done nothing to keep improving.
Nowadays, it's more exciting to see smartphones announcements from Asus (to see if the Flip come back or what else they put out) and even fkin Sony (the Ace is supposedly going global this year) than the copy-paste mess of Samsung & Apple.
LG was the last one actually trying something different (and useful), but we know how that ended.

Hudinited, 26 Jan 2023Flagships COULD be more affordable if people are willing to... moreYou dont get it. Little math here.
Phone XYZ has final cost of $500 and retails for $1000. The OEM is capable of selling 5.000.000 units of XYZ.
- revenue is $5.000.000.000
If OEM decides to sell it for $850 instead, OEM needs to sell 882.353 units more to generate same revenue.
882.353 more phones that need to be made and cost them $500 each just to earn same $5.000.000.000.
More costs in the end and less profits that next year makes OEM increses price.
Everybody here knows android phones can be bought months later for 80, 70, or even 50% of initial price.
Buying early is choice. Dont complain.
Ppl need to stop thinking waiting 6 months is not worth just because next gen is few months away from announcement.
Not having latest gen does not make phone any worse.
Want S23 ultra that costs 1400 euros? You can pay 1400 euros in february, wait until august and pay 900-1000 euros or buy S22 ultra for even less.
Samsung is not gonna charge 1000 euros on day 1 just becausd you think tbey should.

This likely continues for the next few years especially with the recession and unemployment rising with so many people getting laid off. The days of innovation from the mobile industry is gone. A lot of times, the new feature is removing an old feature. Nobody really camps out outside an Apple Store to get the latest iPhone. People are holding onto to their phones longer.
I use both Android and iOS like I used to buy Nintendo, Sega, and Sony gaming consoles all the time. I think brand loyalty is a waste of time. Right now, I carry 4 phones with me daily: Razr 5G, Flip 3, iPhone SE (2022), and iPhone X. I'm loving it. Can get annoying needing to charge them but 3 of the 4 have wireless charging. My iPhones are used to browse. My Android are used as the actual phone and Wi-Fi hotspot since Android is far superior for it.
I really don't understand all this Android vs. iPhone flame wars. Who cares except insecure users who whine online all day? I find if I use only one mobile OS exclusively to be rather boring. I like my versatility and variety from Android with the stability and simplicity from iOS. I never got into the Sega Genesis vs. Super Nintendo wars because I ended up getting both and loving them both.
I'm at a point where I only buy more phones because I'm really bored. Not because I really need them. Maybe I should find another hobby? A 2017 flagship like an iPhone X or 2018 flagship like a Pixel 3 are good enough to do most basic tasks in 2023 for a majority of people. Only need to upgrade every 5+ years. Any sooner is a waste.

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2023What a dumb comment. There is no plateaud... There i... moreFlagships COULD be more affordable if people are willing to buy them. At least in android market. The biggest reason for prices this high is low sales volume compared to other segments. People usually look for How much it costs to make - what's retail price. Nobody is looking trough costs of R&D which are much higher, cost of developers to support that device over the years , insane marketing expenses and potential leftovers and RMA. Calculations are clear, less devices they sell =higher device costs will be. But to be fair 90% of people will be more than satisfied with ~400$ devices. Flagship phones are becoming supercars. They're better looking, faster more capable but much more expensive with worse MPG. Definitely not for everyone anymore.
