But then they added 2 gimmick cameras to utilise the space. Total unnecessary removal of those features when all they introduced in it's place was sheet 2 mp macro and 2 mp depth cameras

the thing is why would you buy a new phone if your old one is fine ?
i am still using a mid-range phone from 2019 and i still see no reason to upgrade

This is what happens when makers keep removing useful features that people want like headphone jack, micro SD, charger in box, UW camera etc while increasing the price or at best keeping it the same. Look at the A53 compared to the A52S, The Redmi Note 11 Pro compared to the Note 10 Pro or the Realme 10 compared to the Realme 9. Even the Realme 6 was better.
Disrespect customers, lose customers. It's simple

Looking at constantly rising phone prices (for flagship phones) it's no doubt why fewer people are buying
Also, flagship phones have just incremental updates every year. More like just a traditional increase in figures, rather than meaningful upgrades or introduction of new features

Artem S. Tashkinov, 26 Jan 2023People have finally started to wake up to the fact that sma... moreI disagree. iPhone 14 Pro was selling like hotcakes to the point that Apple couldn't even keep up with demand. In fact, they are going to release iPhone 15 Ultra that will raise the price even more. People are more than willing to pay $1000+ iPhones now.
The decline is not due to prices. It's simply due to saturation. But existing users are still willing to pay $1000 for new phones.

Only Apple and Samsung have the priviledge to sell "overprice" phones and still have stable sales. Great job👍

Saturation of the market. Majority of people around the world already have a smartphone. That's why many companies are pivoting their business. Some are lookat at EV, some like Apple are looking at services and AR/VR. Everybody knows this and pivoting.
when you can buy a decent 5G smartphone for around $200, where 5G is not even commonplace, you know the market is highly saturated already.

People have finally started to wake up to the fact that smartphones have become so good, it's not necessary to replace them every year or even every two years. Less e-waste is a win for this planet and for people after all.
I sure hope the average update/replacement cycle increases even further, to e.g. 3-5 years. My phone will hit 5 years of age later this year and it's good as new aside from its battery and I cannot procure a new original one, so later this year I will have to buy a new one just because 3 hours of screen on battery life is not enough.
I only hate the fact that my old one has a half-decent aspect ratio, 19:9 and newer phones are horrible in this regard: 20:9 or even 22:9. I do not use Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, but I love watching videos which are mostly 16:9.
