My 3month old Xperia m5 suffered with this problem of sudden death. Went for a software update and the issue resolved itself. So try this before going in for a drastic step like factory reset or changing the motherboard.. Good luck!!

Mark, 22 Jun 2016Just happened to mine, held the 2 buttons down for 15 sec, ... moreit is not funny, but mine did the same thing yesterday 22.06.2016 xperiaZ....:( ???=> hang in sleep mode, no buttons work, red light on when put on charger (USB charge dont work - nothing lights up), but wont start normally even when charging some minutes or hard reset mode - holding down power and up buttons for short time (10-20sec).
Actually your system works for me - put it on the charger (not on USB - does not work...), hold buttons for about 2 min, release those and it went alive with charging screen, then power on phone as usual :)
tnx,

I was playing with my phone until I decided to charge it. I pressed the power button (but not intended to shut it down, just to lock it) and when I connected my charger, it wouldn't start, or connect to the charger. I've had tried all of those options (press power button alongside the volume button, but nothing worked out.) what should I do?

Anonymous, 09 Jun 2016If your phone is rooted and has recovery do the next: plug ... moreI have the same problem with my Z3 Dual. Has got worse since last night. The only thing that happens now is when I plug it in, the red LED turns on, after about 5 seconds, flashes green for less than a second, goes red again for 5 second, turns off for about 2 seconds and then repeats this cycle. When connected to PC it gives a connect/disconnect notification sound at the green flash but Xperia Companion doesn't proceed to "the next step" after connecting it whilst holding the volume down button.
If I hold the power and volume down when plugged in, sometimes LED flashes blue/purple for about 2 second after being red and then turns off and repeats the above cycle again.

My Xperia Z2 started doing this after I flashed a pre rooted marshmallow rom. Phone boots, dims (reaches lock screen sometimes) and restarts. Can't switch off phone. Phone went on till it died. If I charge, it turns on itself and continues to restart. Can't boot into TWRP, can't boot into flash mode
