Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is official with 200MP camera and bespoke Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

01 February 2023
The design, display, battery capacity and S Pen have mostly remained the same as on the S22 Ultra.

Funny thing with cameras. Samsung is increasing the resolution on the main camera, saying that will be better, and at the same time decreasing the resolution on the selfie one, saying the exact same thing. :)

Anyway, when the Xperia 1 V is released, you can probably buy an S23 Ultra for about $900. If Sony wants to be competitive, it should announce the Xperia 1 V this month and release it next month.

Waiting for the Fold 5, hopefully with a slot for the S-Pen - and a front screen that the S-Pen works on too, so you can make quick notes etc without having to unfold the fold. I have an Note Ultra 20 5G and it's still good enough, so the S23 Ultra really offers nothing new. A tad faster, slightly better cameras. Evolution, not revolution.

Beca... moreWith the S23 Ultra price is almost near to the Sony Xperia 1 iv, I don't think I'm going back to Samsung anytime soon. As for the Pro-I, I'm still in love with it but it's about time Sony make a new version with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

Like Dave2D said, this is an eco round for Samsung. I think we're past peak smartphone, and the technological leaps will be similar to the '90s for electronics. Now, it is going to be more evolution than revolution for devepment.

FantasyLED is also amazing. Almost as good as ImaginaryLED!

Back to reality, and AMOLED is in a class of its own.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2023you missing micro led will change scamoledI didn't mention MicroLED since it's still relatively new and that wasn't part of the discussion. I agree that it is superior when it's fully mature.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2023You clearly don't. And what most had is irrelevant. Wh... more"You clearly don't."

Interesting. I explained why LCDs are superior in terms of outdoor visibility due to the backlight in the panels, but you have not provided refuted this nor did you correct me.

"And what most had is irrelevant. Whether 100 different flagships had oled or two had them doesn't matter."

It does. If you go back, you claimed that almost all the tests were within the last decade. A decade is 10 years, so since February 2013. Phones back then barely had OLED and it was still relatively new at the time.

I'm showing you that your claim is false.

"Neither changes the outcome which matches what I said."

You haven't said anything other than "go read reviews on GSMarena".

"So go learn to logic "

That's funny coming from you. You made a claim, but can't back it up.

"and learn to research something before commenting."

I know how to research. You can't even refute anything I've said. Do you even know how the display techs work or are you just going to tell me to watch a video?

"Most test results here and other places will show this. Even sunlight legibility videos showed this too."

Please link a sunlight legibility video then. I found one that claims the opposite of what you said.

If OLED is superior for sunlight legibility compared to LCD/LED, then why don't they use them on giant display billboards?

YUKI93, 02 Feb 2023All the Megapixels, and yet it only produces a binned pixel... moreIn fact, I only just remembered the 2021 Xperia Pro-I. Because the 1" sensor in that phone is a native 3:2 aspect ratio, you get the equivalent of a 1/1.3" sensor (which is coincidentally the same sensor size as the S23 Ultra) when using the more typical 4:3 mode. But even with the cropped 4:3 aspect ratio, it produces the same micron pixel as the S23 Ultra at binned 12MP.

All the Megapixels, and yet it only produces a binned pixel size of 2.4 microns at 12 MP? Even the 2019 Sony RX100 Mk7 compact camera with an unbinned 20.1 MP 1" sensor has a larger pixel size than that.

Sigh without Huawei lazy boy Samsung and Apple with their incremental updates

Irony here is the ultra name nowadays is worse than the
                                    "pro" in the Huawei era
