Camera comparison: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Galaxy S22 Ultra

02 February 2023
Is the 200MP camera better than the 108MP one?

Sort by:

Zero upgrade from 108MP to 200MP, still bad quality because of the bad optics.

They should focus on the optics and software handling instead of the useless MP.

The 200mp one is decent with a lot less over sharpening. But those 12mp. Samples are atrocious.

John, 02 Feb 2023Difference is not significant indeed (but fine for one gene... moreBeing more over sharpened does not make the s23 ultra better

Great so the standard 12mp mode is nothing but a mess of extreme over sharpening.... yay.....

S22 = S23; Iphone 13=Iphone14, That's it. Now a days strategies are adopted by tech giants.

Plovdiv, 02 Feb 2023 The best way to shoot quality photos with the new Samsung ... moreI think the problem is with processing time. The same goes for iPhones. Making 48mpix photos and then downscaling them into 12mpix makes them look so much better than default ones, but probably we would have much greater shutter lag.

Honestly me as an amateur shooting amateur photos... The S22 Ultra is still perfect.

Plovdiv, 02 Feb 2023 The best way to shoot quality photos with the new Samsung ... morephenomenally looking :D

Jesus wake up, all smartphones making ugly photos.

Tann Hauser, 02 Feb 2023Well, a bitter taste is coming all right... Bring in that ... moreLOL what? Dude the more Megapixels doesn't mean that you will get better pictures. That's a thing that you all have to understand. The high Megapixel count is a complete gimmick. Just to attract customers; the bigger the numbers, the bigger the impression that it is better. But that's not how it works, especially in phones this days. Processing does 80% of the job

The best way to shoot quality photos with the new Samsung Galaxy S32 Ultra is to use the 50MP mode and then scale down the size to 4000 x 3000 pixels (12MP, 4:3 aspect ratio) or crop the latter to 4000 x 2250 pixels (9MP, 16:9 ratio). This results into extremely detailed photos with small file size. I'm wondering, why the "Samsung" engineers were not smart enough to include those two options in the phone's camera app? I used to have S21 and did the same trick with its 64MP photos that I scaled down to phenomenally looking 9MP ones with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

at those increased prices people would buy an iphone without thinking twice, samsung top models sells better when they are cheaper and now they are not

John, 02 Feb 2023Difference is not significant indeed (but fine for one gene... moreIt simply does. S23 are so much oversharpened, that it is even hard to look at them. Yes, they have some more details, like on the interior photo of the floor and wooden arm chair, but I would rather have slightly fewer details, than a photo, that looks like someone is using sliders for processing for the first time in life, and setting them to the max.

Well, a bitter taste is coming all right...
Bring in that 400 mpx camera, this 200 is not enough, is just not impressive.

GSMArena should point out they have the Exynos variant of the S22 Ultra, I doubt the difference will be this big when it's Snapdragon S22 Ultra vs Snapdragon S23 Ultra.
But at least we get a better phone in Europe now.

Difference is not significant indeed (but fine for one generation upgrade), but those of saying that S22 images look better ere either delusional or unable to zoom in those pictures.

The 200 mp outdoor image looks like someone upscaled a 640x480 image. That's terrible
