On my Pixel 3a, two different browsers immediately crash when I click on the 200 megapixel photo. My Pixel 7 Pro doesn't have this issue, but instead, the Google Photos app crashes.

I think even a little difference is worth it. You will buy the newest one anyway. You aren't mad to buy an old phone. Buy and use it at least 3 years and then upgrade again. Even midrangers can work 3 years. But if you already have a phone from S21 or S22 series no need to upgrade now.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2023phenomenally looking :D Jesus wake up, all smartphones m... more I strongly recommend you to try the downsampling method and see the results with your own eyes, in case that you don't believe my words. The photo quality is extremely good that way and beats every native 12MP photo on any other phone.

Ok, played with 200mpix a bit. I used any method (from slowest to fastest) to downsize potato 200Mix to 50Mpix, and suddenly, resized 50Mpix photos look very decent, way better than Samsung's own 50Mpix photos. With more detail and without oversharpening. I'm not sure, what kind of people Samsung has in their denoise and resize software departments, but those people have their hands growing from the wrong places.

SirArtur, 02 Feb 2023I think the problem is with processing time. The same goes ... more I think that shutter lag will be the same, because the phone can still process the photos in background, just like what it does with the night mode. For example, my Galaxy S10e can shoot series of night photos while the previous ones are still being processed. Usually one mouth time photo needs about 5-10 seconds additional time to be fully processed AFTER the capture. However, downsampling a photo is considerably faster to process and you can test that with some apps for photo editing. It's nearly instant. The problem comes from the lack of such an integrated option in the default Samsung photo app. This is why I was forced to do that manually on my S21 with the 64MP photos downsampled to 12MP (4:3) and then cropped to 16:9 ratio at 9MP. That way, they beat the quality of the photos taken with Xiaomi 12S Ultra in daytime.

i do think samsung downgrades camera quality of their previous generations to yield better results from their upcoming phones.

Overall, S23 Ultra seems to be applying stronger sharpening but less noise reduction on its photos than S22 Ultra, which leads to finer but more "enhanced" looking photos with bolder edges and more noticeable haloing, with a lot more noise, too. The same generally applies to the 3x and 10x cameras as well.

While I consider this as an improvement (especially in low light, although to be fair S23 Ultra uses a much longer shutter speed for the last low light shot), it's pretty evident that Samsung really needs to step up their game and increase the physical area of the sensor rather than cramming in as many pixels as they can on their relatively small sensor.

The new 50MP mode is definitely a surprise and it doesn't have any of the artifacts that plagued the S22 series' "Detail Enhancer" mode - I definitely can tell that Samsung put a lot of effort into improving the high-resolution output, so well done here. The 200MP, on the other hand.. per-pixel detail and contrast are *significantly* lower to the level that it has well past the point of diminishing return, and I don't think it's worth shooting photos in this mode all things considered. Not to mention that these high-resolution modes make the softness of the lens on the left-hand side a LOT more noticeable.

Overall it's a decent upgrade over S22 Ultra, but I'll wait and see how Vivo X90 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Pro and the upcoming Oppo Find X6 Pro will stack up against it.

Mysteriously there is still no battle between system/dslr camera's. All Samsung has to do is put decent glass in and stop all the Ai shit. But no.

Slowly. The S23 Ultra will receive many more software updates, it has just arrived.

Bodygard, 02 Feb 2023Again, if you have S21 Ultra or S22 Ultra, wait another year...I have Note 20 Ultra with shitty Exynos what about me.

Only dumb people will expect too much upgrade for regular daytime photos over a year.
It's not just this year. It has been some years that the smartphone cameras are not improving at daytime as they used to be. Even a midrange daytime photos are almost onpar with any flagship. The real change can be seen in, like tricky lighting photos then nighttime photos. And most importantly the video quality which is lacking in for all Android phones.
None of those important factors are presented here, so I wouldn't judge so early.

S22 ultra user, 02 Feb 2023and yet again samsung improves the hardware instead of the ... morewell, i got the s22 ultra too and i got no ram or battery problems. the camera is nice too.

the 10x ones from the 23ultra are a bit sharper, but that's it, the rest as for the 22ultra.

So... Samsung needs 200MPix to render grass properly... Ok... On the other hand, 200Mpix photo looks like a potato.

Can't wait for the full review

S23 photos are slightly more detailed and sharper.

Open the fourth image in the series for each of the phones and focus on the closed road in the center.

For the S23 photo you can clear see the BAROCCO sign and the road signs, the trees - everything looks better. The difference is very minor though and and can be seen only at 1:1 magnification.

and yet again samsung improves the hardware instead of the software, the 48MP camera on iphone 14 was much better than 108 MP on samsung, and captures more details without being blury when zooming in, the software is trash and very bad optimized, the phone needs to restart every 2 days to clear the ram, and the phone keeps overheating, battery life is disapointing, and the phone is slow at charging, it charges at 25W not 45W
it feels like Samsung is going to a cars race in a tank!!!

Again, if you have S21 Ultra or S22 Ultra, wait another year...

12 MP is way too oversharpened and looks like crap. They can do much petter job with downscaling because if one compares with a 200 MP picture, details are there in larger resolution. Sensor is good but software implementation isn't.
