OnePlus finally settles it: the OnePlus 11 is IP64 rated in all markets

08 February 2023
That means it's dust tight and splash resistant.

Now solve the sh*tty software part of the equation -- it's better to literally do nothing (i.e., leave it like AOSP) than taking to effort to change to whatever you want to call "this".

Until this whole software thing gets solved, no buy. Plain and simple.

Very disappointed with Oneplus this year, no wireless charging, older gorilla glass 5, no IP68 rating, no case in the box. I feel like they've taken a step back from the 10 pro, yes I know the 10 pro didn't have IP68 rating but the rest still stands. I've had every oneplus since they started but I feel that run will now stop.

        Well, now you know.

Olympus Oms, 08 Feb 2023Ip64? So still only water drops protected in 2023. Gj oppo.... moreYou realise oppo arent making the decisions right? That would be like ferrari blaming fiat for a problem with their car (fiat own/owned them) or honor blaming huawei still (they use old huawei employees but its not huawei as another example)

BBK is the parent company of both oppo and oneplus (including vivo, realme and IQOO) , oppo isnt going over to oneplus and going "MUWHAHAHAHA, we're going to make you manufacture terrible phones now!" theyll probably use the same factories and teams to develop their own individual phones for cost effectiveness but Oneplus has its own executives, making their decisions with their own budgets, and designers, making their own phones.

Using the same software designers should mean better software support for the future while being able to push more frequent and polished updates accross both companies, its also probably for cost effectiveness again and probably a BBK descision over an oppo descision. Theres multiple other companies using multiple other custom OS like some using harmonyOS for china releases.

With almost all the influencers using the title "Is OnePlus back, are they back?" in their headlines, they aren't really. I think this is some ploy set up by OnePlus. They will only be back when the true OxygenOS makes it's way back. Till then I will keep saying the software is still crap.

The OnePlus is definitely a premium level android phone that offers a lot of bang for the buck that's sure to steal customers away from other android phone manufacturers. The only concern is, unlike Google pixel phones which receive their android updates immediately how long of a delay will there be for the OnePlus 11? And also, in comparison to only Google pixel phones which get a pure android update software, how diluted of android update will the OnePlus 11 receive. Because of this, the Google pixels become pretty competitive among android phones despite Google pixels having SoC,s with much lower performance benchmarks such as the Google tensor 3 being easily surpassed by Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 2 and media Tek dimmensity 9200 and finally by Apple's A16 bionic.

Just recently watched on utube OnePLus starting to lock down battery replacements on their devices like what apple does.

I actually find IP64 to be the sweet spot for phone resistance for most people. I definitely value IP68 since I always use my phone underwater, but not everyone does that.

Certification is not just one. For each phone to get achieve an official IP rating each phone has to be individually tested with a special machine and pass. It's very costly and time consuming.

The biggest problem with the ip64 rating. They use only one type of dust yet don't state what kind. They don't say for how long the test was taken. They don't say what conditions and variables where used for real world scenarios. The product is not water PROOF it's only water RESISTANT. It's not dust PROOF it's only dust RESISTANT. This isn't limited to the phone market. It is nothing but a marketing ploy the same way they claim something has been clinically tested yet not clinically proven to work.

PorkHotdog, 08 Feb 2023Imagine buying a phone that isn't waterproof in 2023 lmfaoImagine thinking there are waterproof phones lmao
                                      Water resistant =/= water proof.

As long as water damage is not cover in the warranty IP rating will not define if a buy a phone (my case). It annoys me all the press about something phone makers are not committed to beyond marketing. Size and aspect ratio matters for me yet there is little variety.
