It's been known and proven for years that TSMC > Samsung.

naap51d, 10 Feb 2023Call me old fashioned, but I prefer SLOW charging over hype... moreeven if charging speed is above 45 to 60W, life of battery would be surely be more than 2 years, after that we can change the battery (it doesnt cost much) compared to the convenience of having high speed charging. Again it is completely on what a user wants. I used note 20 ultra carefully for 2 years and still battery had problems.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer SLOW charging over hyper fast charging.
If anything else, the battery life over time is extended since you aren't heating up
        the cells as much.

Still, the review indicates it really is better than most.

Love the endurance rating, but GSMArena, could you please do an endurance rating for this phone running in "light mode"? I'd be curious to see the difference that makes in your scoring.

Looks like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for next year is going to be a powerhouse with 20% less power consumption. I will wait for the Flip 7 in 2025 which will have Gen 4. I'm assuming battery life for the Z Flips should cross over 20h easily by that point. But I guess in real world use for my case, at least 12h-14h SOT consistently. That's at least 2-days worth since I carry multiple phones using about 5h-10h SOT in one depending what I'm doing on that phone.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max's battery life was only the beginning. Expect more phones in the next few years in whatever size to consistently hit over 20h SOT for web browsing and playback with 4nm or lower SoCs. Most users who aren't power users may only need to charge their phone once every 2-3 days and that's if you still practice the 80-40 rule and keep the hard cap on the Samsung to only 85% charged.

              2023: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (S23s, Fold 5, Flip 5)
              2024: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (S24s, Fold 6, Flip 6)
              2025: Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (S25s, Fold 7, Flip 7)
              2026: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (S26s, Fold 8, Flip 8)
              2027: Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 (S27s, Fold 9, Flip 9)
              2028: Snapdragon 8 Gen 7 (S28s, Fold 10, Flip 10)

Samsung should spell the Fold 10 and Flip 10 as Fold X and Flip X. Looking at it now, I may just wait until 2028 to upgrade from my Flip 3 to Flip 10 although I've said I can use my Flip 3 for 10 years even with this awful battery life.

Phones are more powerful and efficient now but they're not as exciting as they used to be. You can buy a Samsung flagship in 2021 or 2025 and use it for 10 years even if the software support stopped after 5. I only recently bought an iPhone X which turns 6 this November and other than the degraded battery, it works really well. I'd use it as my daily driver if the speakers and reception weren't so lousy.

I think the S21 Ultra looks way better than the S22U and S23U. If you own that and don't need the S-Pen slot, you really don't need to upgrade to S23U if you're coming from that. Battery life might be weaker but is it really worth getting another after 2 years when battery life can double after 4 or 5 years?

Finally, Android flagships are catching up on Apple in terms of battery life and performance. 😮‍💨

blue, 10 Feb 2023S22U had significantly lower times even with Qualcomm, mayb... moreYes, the Qualcomm S22Ultra was also a Samsung chip, so it makes sense that it has lower runtimes.

                        Samsung Chips: Snap 7gen1, 8gen1, 888 and 888+. 865, 855 and 870 are TSMC, as well as the 8+gen 1, and now 8gen2.

You clearly see that Samsung with the S23 Ultra (and presumably also the Plus Version) artificially spread the charging times between the the 25W and 45W charger to make it more worth buying the more expensive 45W charger.

Charging speed depends on a lot of factors including ambient temperature and environment.
