These renders coincide nicely with the recently-leaked live photo of the upcoming phone.

The zoomed-in render picture of Xperia 1 V from that tweet does show the stripped pattern flat frame from Xperia Pro-I though (at least in this CAD render)

Some of these renderings show ridged edges. Some don't

[deleted post]It was actually Motorola who pioneered desktop mode on mobile. Samsung is unoriginal and copied it. EU should ban Samsung DeX.

Anonymous, 11 Feb 2023Don't know why the author thinks thin = overheating. ... moreYou are the one who does not know how physics work. Solids and liquids conduct heat much better than air. The more there is, the more the heat it can absorb and carry away from the CPU and GPU to the rest of the phone. There are no fins or fans on the outside of the phone like a radiator or a heatsink to dissipate heat via the air, so the thinner it is, the more likely the heat will stay within the CPU and GPU compartment. Conducting materials like a copper vapor chamber help distribute heat better as well. Anyhow most phones nowadays are terrible at bringing the heat out to the surface of the phone for air cooling, because the glass on both sides are a terrible conductor of heat. The temperature in a smartphone is just expected to average out inside the phone and the CPU voltage drops to prevent it from going higher. This is different from a computer where you can just crank up the cooling fans and sustain CPU voltage.

Anonymous, 11 Feb 2023There is zero airflow for ALL phones except gamer phones th... moreGood point, but there's more to it. Thicker phones have more space inside so you can use more of copper heatsink. You also get thicker frame, if it's a metal frame then you have more metal to conduct heat away from CPU. Also more surface area of metal that is in contact with surrounding air.

If you look at Zenfone 9 disassembly, there's good amount of copper and thermal paste. It also has "thick" metal frame. Zenfone 9 has drawn criticism for being "thick" but it helps it to perform thermally better than other compact phones.
In the end it comes down to material and design rather than simply thin/thick.

Such a shame. If only Sony fixed the aspect ratio and provided proper software support they could easily snatch up market share. Many people don’t want a Samsung let alone a chinese phone.
