Chinese OnePlus 11 units are apparently region-locked

This might actually be a new policy affecting Oppo and Realme devices as well.

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2023Indonesian is the worst country about lock. Only made in I... moreno wonder why we get crappy e waste at high prices.

there is a certain market for grey imported andoid phones entering Hong Kong market from china, the difference, they have been hacked and google installed, wonder if this region lock is to prevent this?

on the other hand, even the iphone is made in china, it's not 50% local venture and subject to import taxes, thus. people from china purchase it from Hong Kong as it's 20% cheaper as there is no tax, wonder if apple implement this region lock in future

What the hell 😓 Oneplus has officially gone to the dogs. Miss the good old days of Oneplus 8 series where everything was open and when you bought their phone you really owned it.

How can you really say you OWN a product that you ALREADY PAID FOR if the manufacturer can lock it down at will. Is it really YOUR product if they can still remote-deactivate it?

This is a very bad precedent, and should be met with the utmost rejection. Skip OP11, in hopes that OP12 does not infringe on your property rights.

Valiant , 12 Feb 2023You try doing business in China without state approval and ... moreChina is not actually Communist and no country has ever actually been communist. They just have it as part of their name, but they were actually dictatorships in the past which is essentially the opposite of what communism is about. China currently is considered socialist, because the political party has control over the direction of the country. They still have a free market economy and have private ownership of things like capitalism. In communism, their is no private land or companies, it is all collectively owned. Theoretically, everyone is suppose to get everything they need to survive rather than be left for dead if they can not work or have issues. It is a goal to be communist more so than something immediately achievable, but wealthier countries like the US would have a much easier time achieving this than when the Soviet Union tried as they were a poor country and the system was perverted with an authoritarian dictator (which they still struggle with today, despite being "democratic").

Companies do bend over backwards for China since it is a huge market, but China is not communist lol. Kind of how America is "United," but people value state rights more than common sense federal laws.

Long story short, communism ≠ dictatorship or Fascism, and communism has never truly been practiced in the world, only theorized about, despite China having it in their official name

This literally will be a very bad news for everyone. I mean, they are screwing up even more the phone market. People might go to the 2nd hand market to still getting good deals and avoiding the region locked ones.

Only made in Indonesia phone can be used after 2020 (start from 2 years ago).
If foreigner come to Indonesia can only buy "tourist sim card" which have a "tourist rates".

You get what you pay for.

If they are offering significantly cheaper phones in india then it's possible that beyond cheaper taxes & production incentives provided by government,Xiaomi is doing some form of cost cutting in actual hardware itself.
Or Xiaomi is being evil & they intentionally bricking/causing malfunction to force customers to purchase a new phone instead of keeping the device for long.

BMHater12, 12 Feb 2023Indian made phones are just dogwater anyway, seen the Redmi... moreIts no surprise that Xiaomi is notorious for causing hardware issues on their phones after updates, especially their cheap Redmi & Poco series.there are thousands of complains from Redmi/Poco users complaining of bricking/some random hardware malfunctions, mostly cameras mostly after updates with phones that crossed their warranty period.

Quality of the product itself mostly depend on its actual manufacturer & Quality control of the manufacturing facility.
Thats why despite being made in india Apple iPhone run flawlessly.Samsung also makes most of their phones in india & these are not coming with much problems, but Xiaomi's are.

But it's also not fair to expect to understand these basic things from any random guy spreading their hate towards a specific people.
