Chinese OnePlus 11 units are apparently region-locked

This might actually be a new policy affecting Oppo and Realme devices as well.

And, no Chinese brand will restrict any country if their government haven't told them to.
Moreover, as the article said, the limited functionality is there in India, Brazil, Russia among others (where OP11 is soon going to launch). It makes no sense to reach a conclusion that they are doing anything because of some random sanction

SShock, 12 Feb 2023Buying phones from China is pointless anyway. Most of them ... moreChina/asia (ITU region 3) frequency is actually more like Europe/Africa (ITU region 1).

The one that very different is America (ITU region 2)

Buying phones from China is pointless anyway. Most of them use weird cellular bands that make them useless in Europe. And it's not even cost efficient since paying VAT and customs brings the costs so far high it just makes no sense and you don't even have warranty in the end.

OnePlus china has apparently said that this indeed is an error and the devs are working to fix it

And what stops from the phone maker of updating that file based on their whim or based on the current sanctions list of the week, rendering your phone useless?

It almost same case with Xiaomi too (on MIUI 13 China. i don't know)

But I guess I'm safe with ... moreLuckily retailers like Giztop who sell Chinese phones globally have mitigated that limitation by allowing to choose OxygenOS as the software option so that you don't get the lock. Case in point and if the sources suggest anything, sounds like it is on the software side of things so using OxygenOS can possibly bypass this.
