Weekly poll: Realme GT Neo 5 has super fast charging and killer pricing, do you want one?

19 February 2023
The phone's highlight feature is the 240W charge system, but the relatively low price of the 16GB/1TB model is not to be overlooked.

"With prices like these, we find it hard to get mad that there is no microSD slot .." yeah, It's too small device and price is 100€ .. even entry level device have sd slot and 3.5mm.. hate today's brick phone without basic functionality. Personally I don't use camera more than few times at year but mediocre always wins.

atichko, 19 Feb 2023A while ago, the craze was the number of (useless) cameras ... moreMan you right and you are funny,
Yes in case of cameras lenses matter not number of cameras.
In case of charging its all about heat.
If your 18W charger produces durring 2-3 hours of charging time more heeat than this 240W does in 5 minutes of charging when battery reaches 100% you whine for nothing but for an worse option.
To be honest if i put this phone into charger with lets say 30% capacity and it tops up in like 5 minutes. there will be no or very close to no at all damage to the battery because in such a short time charger will not generate any heat.
By the way in phone like this and in charger like this there is at least 40-60 defensive things which manages to not generate any heat to battery no matter what,
Something that your 18W charging brick never had.

By the way since time is money faster is always better no matter how you look at it.
No matter whats you do, your work etc faster is always better.
Since humans cant buy time they can do things faster to preserve as much time as possible to have time for other things in the life.

    This is how it works.

Sin, 19 Feb 2023Ah my bad yes it yes Snapdragon 8 gen 1+ that is made by ts... moreYou cant have big capacity batteries with fast charging, the best youll get is 4500-5000 and thats split between multiple cells.

And no the point of fast charging is you can do quick top ups, (so charging it at 30% to 80% for example) it doesnt heat the battery up and keeps the phone from holding too much charge or being discharged too much for too long. The thing that does damage is prolonged charging at any speeds/letting battery drop to 0%/go up to 100%/keeping your battery fully discharged or fully charged (most iphone/samsung users).

Didnt realme promise 1600 cycles which is basically 4 years? (1 full charge a day) Any phone throwing out 60w+ will do daily full charges for atleast 3 years before properly noticeable degradation which it still doesnt matter when you get a full battery in 10-20 mins.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2023It's only relatively low price in China. Launch it for... moreThe pricing outside China is what concerns me so far. $515 for 16/1024 might sound tempting, but that's before you count in the shipping and custom tax. I'd be surprised if Realme can sell the 16/1024 for not more than $699 or $799 at best.

About the super fast charging, BBK solution is the best you can get since they put all the super fast charging technology on the adapter, not on the phone. You can read about it here: https://www.androidauthority.com/supervooc-fast-charging-686000/

By seeing the price, I can't afford to buy that realme GT Neo 5. Since it is in China only, I think I will see realme GT3.

Usually new high end smartphone comes with expensive price. So, if I want to upgrade Android smartphone with higher Watt charger, I think I will see realme GT Neo 3 150W option. Price one a day will be go down.

Gggg, 19 Feb 2023It's not gen 1 but + gen 1, so TSMC and much better Ah my bad yes it yes Snapdragon 8 gen 1+ that is made by tsmc
This does make this smartphone more impressive
It's a incredible price point too

                    Such a good soc
Although it's a shame realme put in a kinda small 4600mah battery
So battery life won't be long

The 240w fast changer isn't a good thing either
Having top up battery too often
It just overheat the phone going through many cycle
Getting hot then cold too often

All of this is going harm the long-term use of this smartphone

Imo 40-60W fast charge is fine for me, faster is better tho i feel that everyday, i mean i want to go home from work and rest, so maybe pick up my phone lay down after a long day... But wait? I cannot my battery is low so put the plug in and probably wait for 15-30 mins to full charge, meanwhile prepare dinner or whatever you u want, by the time u pick up your phone again its juiced up ready to go, how convenient is that? Yeah I'm all for faster charging it suits my busy schedule

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2023It's only relatively low price in China. Launch it for... moreMan whhats obsollette for you is not obsollette for others.
Many people have work where they travel a lot and since time is money faster is always better.
Even i would be happy for a phone with 1000+W charging.
Since such thing does not exist 240W is very welcomed.

A while ago, the craze was the number of (useless) cameras you could put on a smartphone, the more, the merrier. Now that everybody realises that the amount is not important but the quality of the lenses and the software it requires to process the images, the manufacturers needed a new craze to sell as much crap as possible...charging speed... The new useless thing. 18 watt was already fast enough, even for 5000/6000 mAh batteries. It's just a question of patience. Nowadays it must be charged up in a few minutes, otherwise you will die a terrible death it seems. Not speaking about the impact it has on your battery longevity. It's a fact that it will affect it negatively. I would be slightly less negative if all smartphones would have removable batteries like it used to be not so long ago but with all the sealed ones in today's phones, I'll pass, thank you.
When I buy a smartphone with a fast charger I will not use it. I just keep using my old 18 watt brick which does what is needed. In some phones you can disable the fast charging (Samsung) and that is one of the first things I do during the setup of the phone. I prefer having a long lasting battery with max capacity over speed of charge at the expense of the latter.

If you call this a build quality then you shouldnt have a smartphone.
Pick something like Nokia 808 tough, Nokia 3310 or 3110 and you are good to go.

If the user experience and software optimization are done right, I'll not hesitate to buy this. 240W fast charging is kinda overkill for me. Availability is also a concern. I don't wanna risk my privacy by importing a china set. I'm using Realme 3 Pro now, still survives to this date and pretty good for daily usage.

But if this phone would have much better design for example made by Motorola and a pure android experience i would be really happy.
Its still more than Okay device but i really dont like how the phone looks.
But specs and charging speeds are interesting. But wish its a bit faster lets say it will top up battery under 30 seconds.

It is quite obvious that something is seriously cheapened in such "Bang for the buck" smartphones which may lead to bad consequences after some time of use. Easiest example is Poco X3 Pro, cheap plastic brick with trash IPS and 2019 flagship SoC, poor cooling leads to overheating and unsoldered chip as a result. Such fast charging is also overkill which leads to way faster battery degradation because of higher temperatures from it.
