Sure, some can't afford it, but there are not enough of those for 3454654 Android brands, 99% of which want to sell an iPhone-copy (I'd say only Sony is an exception, but they are insane too with their pricing).

Not everyone can afford iPhone and thats just a normal reality of life. It makes perfect sense for Android manufacturers to try to take advantage of the appeal of iPhone. Again this is only true in the real world, not in your fantasy world where 'everyone wants Android'.

Hopefully this is just an optional feature that can be turned off in settings.

Apple did this out of necessity. Because they had to make that cut out to fit the FaceID setup and camera, they wanted to use it better. But these companies are doing it just to adopt that as a feature when they can already do full screen with great cameras. Why?
