Nokia has a major stake in HMD.
The first Made In Europe-Nokias are going to be launched Q3 2023.

It is an illusion that Samsungs would be made in Korea, or iPhones in the US.
For what I read many Samsungs are made in Vietnam and practically all iPhones are made in China. Don't know about Sony.

Gigaset has several models that are made in Germany and is the only European manufacturer at the time of writing (Sept 4 -23).
In the unlikely case that I do not like the future European Nokias I'll go for Gigaset:
The phones get 5 years updates, are repairable and the battery can be easily replaced.

Korea is just a tag these days. Kind of like Nokia. These days no matter which phone you buy, you support the Chinese economy.
I don't care where the phones are made, if I am paying more then quality is my first priority.

Better go buy Samsung, Apple or Sony. That's how you hurt them: By buying from the competition (which is not chinese)
The real Nokia doesn't make smartphones anymore - HMD does - which is chinese. The real Nokia makes telecommunications system etc, not smartphones.
And yeah, I'd also pay more for a smartphone made 100% in Europe by European /American/South Korean/Japanese brands.
I used to not care about where a product is made, but now I spend tons of time checking every single product that I want to purchase from any kind of store. That includes software too.

Not every european country is a developed nation, lot of east european nation have lower income than China.

Imagine paying 800 Euro for Nokia with Unisoc chip, and it was made from Albania/Moldova, only for "European" label.

Google copied most of the features from custom ROMs. They would just go to XDA and copy stuff year after year. Sort of like freeloading or maybe even stealing. Apple did the same with Cydia but that is another thing. Technically speaking, Xiaomi has done more for Android than Nokia ever will since the OS is not changing much these days.
HMD is not a sister brand, it is more like mother. It owns Nokia and the only thing left of the old Nokia is the name. HMD also got the website when they bought the name.

So yeah, nokia is still behing it all and hmd is just sister brand. I dare to say, that hmd was made to protect nokia assets in case of bankruptcy, so it cannot affect the "mothership" incomings no matter what happens.

Anyways i presume that the prices won't go up very much, EU maybe will support their initiative, so i presume that, at least at the biginning they will get some serious tax subventions. A device like x30 would probably cost about 630euros, still ok minding the fact that this is how it should have been, and not how it is right now. With most of chinese brands apple or samsung. People need to start to learn to appreciate what they have and not make everything a piece of garbage in half a year.

And if the prices go up by 100 i have nothing against it, i would still like to support their strategy. If Fairphone can survive with way less sales, so can hmd. Even tough am pretty much sure that they won't build the devices in Germany or Finland, more like Hungary or Romania, where the people are still better paid then in china, but not that good as in Germany. But well, one never knows. I wish them all the best and to stay strong and relevant, would make me very sad to only be able to only chose betwenn chinese (mostly garbage) brands or google. So i myself give them all the support i can,

The amount you need to pay for worker in EU is like 5 times more then in China plus all the tax for everything. People move to produce there product to China so they get profit for there product as thanks to local work standards and how much you need to pay for workers and everything like that make the product cost so much that you cant get much profit from there.

With there moto with reusable materials are used for the phone that is more expensive cause it's not cheap to reuse plastic and all the process that goes to make it. Now move to EU and Nokia be next Apple with there prices but give you total trash for it. From Chinese brands you get 2 flagship hardware phones while from Nokia you get maybe 1 middle class hardware phone for the same money
