Why wo... moreI'm not sure about the quad-core, but MT is usually more budget-friendly (sometimes even offers netter performance) than snapdragon. And to be fair, snapdragon is also being used in a considerable number of what you call "china phones," so it's a fair deal as long as Sony prices it accordingly and lives up to the high build-quality standards they're known for.

I wonder what the price would be? It would be interesting to see the what name they opt out for to mark the distinction. MTK chipset, maybe cheap but is amply powerful for day to day needs. Those who doubt could check the MMX A116 reviews.

Sony (and other phone manufacturers) should have let more open SoC companies like ST-Ericsson survive, rather than now allowing crappy cheapo companies like Mediatek thrive.

If they are going with mediatek then they better be cheaper or as cheap as the micro max and xfactors. And Sony should concentrate more on.its display. Viewed directly the display is fantastic but even a slight angle makes a noticeable difference. Please improve viewing angles.

This isn't cutting corners, this is business, maybe Sony get better deal from Mediatek than Qualcomm. The performance of this CPU is reasonable from various reviews on the web, it is based on power efficient Cortex A7 and are meant for budget segment so don't expect it to beat other quad core CPU's, not everyone wanted to benchmark all day comparing scores, just a snappy performance is good enough.

It is mid-ramge they say, but the price will be for high-end. Just like the Xperia SL and Xperia L.

Isnt Mediatek a commonly used proc for China phones? Why would Sony cut corners and go for Mediatek? better to dish out a Dual Core Snapdragon than a Quad Mediatek.

Low or mid range mobiles are pointless coz when someone gets one, all they do is moan about it, its slow, cameras bad etc...

sony is doing good with its smartphones but the common fault in them is their tft panel which has bad veiwing angles but the color reproduction is good.so sony need to really imphasize the screen to cope with iphone's retina display.they should use ips panel.
