Major, 29 Mar 2013Why not just get a nexus?Wow, genius, he want a IP57 certified phone with a good battery, and you recommend the one that has the very terrible battery and no certification, and in addition has worse audio quality in video recording than $25 china phones, limited storage and no card slot? Nexus4 is too pathetic, really, and it is seriously overpriced (except in US, UK and some others, but still expensive considered how crippled it is)

I don't know how Sony defines a mid range/budget device, but I'm guessing that this one will be selling for upwards of $500 or more.

I seriously doubt Sony will get into MediaTek, this requires so much driver programming work, from a chip manufacturer who barely understand the term "OEM dev support". Sony is better off staying with dual core snapdragon chipsets, more performance and good dev support from Quallcom.
If it comes true we are basically looking at a chinese phone with a Sony logo slapped on it, not a real Sony, this will degrade the weight of the Sony branding.

Sony do this because they want to concentrate on INDIAN Market.
Indian market is flooded with affordable 5'' quad core MTK handsets.
Therefore to gain market shares in our market SONY takes this step.

Another rumor say that Sony is working on a phone, that is to be released by the end of this year, that have all the latest cameratechnology from Sony and an almost as big lens as Nokias 808 and still not be too bulky, and that same phone is rumored to have all the latest Walkman-sound technology! Sony have all they need to make a better cameraphone than Nokia, and to make the best sound quality in a phone! Unfortunatly none of their today existing phones from Sony even come close too the best camera or soundquality!

A huge mistake from Sony!
They should launch a product better than Xperia Z or ZL but at more affordable price!
Dont learn from Samsung who launch many variation of models but later no software support!
