Well, it was expected. They already brought dynamic island to vanilla model. They will put usb type c also. Apple never does too many things to vanilla models.
They will bring pro motion to the base models, in the moment when they will not have anything else to add. Probably iPhone 16 or 17?!
But even with this omission, iPhone 15 will sell better than iPhone 14, because of the usb c port. At least, my guess is like this.

Having 120Hz would not make it more popular.
Ppl know what they are getting.
If not satisfied, just return. 2 days are more than enough to be sure if phone suits you or not, dont be like some silly ppl on reddit that keep phone 1 month and then complain it was not what expected.
Majority of phones come as default set 60Hz. How many turn on? I highly doubt most do.
Many do not even know they are using 60.

Why should I pay for 128/256/512GB if 64GB is way more than my needs require?
Why should I pay for 12/16GB if 4GB can do what I need?
Why should I pay for 3 cameras if I only use one?
Why should I pay for 144Hz if 60Hz works well for me?
I've had from very low ends (galaxy pocket) to flagship. Lots of stuff phones have today have no use to me.
I prefer flagship (despite using midrange now) because internet is better, construction is better, video/photos are better, screen is better calibrated (except samsung).

1000 euros and still 60h?. The cheapest 200euro phones have 90 or 120hz now, it's not a pro feature anymore than charging speed faster than 5w is a pro feature!

Apple as always doing what knows how to do best....
And next year USB-C so means a lot of Iphone users may need to buy new cables.
Still the "low-mid" end of apple 60hz, no HDMI-OUT many many features missing
only single or dual pretty poor cameras.
This is just disgusting, the brand who was innovating now is the last.
